Mystery Car!
There used to be – way back when, even before my time – a radio program called I Love a Mystery, and truth be told, who doesn’t? It’s seemingly human nature to want to solve conundrums and that’s why we like bringing you a weekly automotive puzzle. The last couple of weeks have been kind of stumpers, taking longer than usual to decipher, but maybe this week’s challenge will be an easy one.
Not favoring a quick solution is the fact that this car - if car it ’tis – is a color other than red, which seems to throw everyone off. Instead, it’s the hue of a calm sky, but don’t let that lull you into a false sense of security. Okay, let’s get this show on the road, as you most assuredly know how it’s done- you have to come up with the year, make, model, and engine. Of course, they don’t necessarily need to come in that order. Good luck!

There can be only one correct black mystery car!

Did the Batmobile get impounded? Bruce is having a tough go of it.
BATMAN!
Ford Escort RS200 Mk2 would be too mainstream according to the past few MC challenges.
Maybe they went obvious this time just so everyone would go, naaaah, it can't be that.

I think this may be it. That second picture is the same as above. Or so it looks.
Well done! Now, go find pictures of the other three.

Oh man! What production vehicle had similar 4-point waffle wheels? I thought it was the 80s Pulsar but I can't find any pics…
I thought the Isuzu Piazza/Impulse had waffle wheels – that's what the Asso di Fiori became – but I could be wrong.
*I screwed up my Asso di Fiori pic. It should have been this:

Huh… my gut instinct was the Impulse or one of it's clones.
I may have been thinking of these…but I don't think so.

Subaru XT?

Close…but no! I'm just sure there was something with the grid in the middle, VERY similar to the Asso de Fiori.
I thought of 2: The Chevy Cavalier Z24, as well as the Isuzu Impulse:

This might be it! Is there a grid on the center cap? It kinda looks like it….

I think that, in general, 90-degree angles just don't work on wheels. There were a whole bunch of 4-lug cars in the '70s and '80s that tried it, and they all looked odd to me.

Late response, but I do think these are awesome wheels:

I was thinking of the Z24 as well.
…Yes, I grew up here in New Hampshire, why?
My first thought was that Hyundai Ponies had hubcaps that looked rather like that. Maybe it was that large sedan I can't remember the name of instead.
Anyway; here's the Pony coupe concept:

I assumed you meant the rest of the "Ace" series…
Well done! And a very interesting car. A bit like a TT in aspirations, yet done before the Coupe. It could have been magnificent with a little more design development. The body sort of seems to be rejecting the wheels.
Crap, I hit -1 instead of +1.
I thumbed up to cancel you out.
Good job! I was going down the wrong road completely: http://carphotos.cardomain.com/ride_images/4/423/… Australian Chrysler Valiant VH Charger. Rob picking a grey car, made a lot of B&W photos turn-up in my googling, he's sneaky.
Speaking of Chargers, check out this Frua-bodied Challenger:

That is purdy! Rather menacing look to it.
I was looking at some pictures of this car just yesterday.
http://www.pietro-frua.de/1970_dodge.htm
I thought it quite interesting how much of the Challenger bits remain in modified form. The instrument cluster is normally illuminated by lights concealed in a dashboard overhang. The overhang lights don't seem to be in this leather-wrapped version but the stock instruments are, and probably can't be read at night. It still has a rear defog switch, but the defogger is wires on the window instead of the original ducted fan. Interior door handles and lock hardware is repurposed in the new doors, and the hard plastic console and dash trim pieces are now apparently leather-wrapped. The panel with the "door ajar" light originally was part of the overhead console of the SE package (appropriate for the VIN of this car).
You're a freak of nature.
Things like this make me realize that I still have a long way to go to become as knowledgeable as some other people on this site.
Crazy skills my friend
Ixnay on Kyalami or Longchamp.
Googling "scoops" is fun.
