PaperCars – Should Hold You Until Quitting Time

Please welcome one of few new contributors, Scott Ith. Scott comes to us from his own website, NeedThatCar which has a ton of hoontastic stuff on it. Please make Scott feel welcome and awkward at the same time. -KK
Do you have a few hours of work left? Do you need to look busy without making much noise? Do you have a printer in your office? Great! Here’s a website that will help you accomplish all of your Friday afternoon goals. Click through to get your origami on.

Printable objects have been in the internet news lately. Now you can print your own. PaperCars.net has several printable classic origami cars on which you can spend your afternoon. The Mini Cooper in the photo below was my attempt at building one of them. I am quite certain that folks more talented than myself (read: you) could make it look far better with minimal effort.

There are several options, and if you have a color printer, several colors. Would you believe that I have a color printer, but just happen to really like gray cars? Also, for a fee, you can even have them print your company logo on them and pretend you are using them for marketing.
Now get to work, but don’t let it get in the way of your TPS reports.

Scott, welcome!
Now a Nissan Juke would be a real challenge.
Welcome Scot!
Oops, sorry for misspelling your name… Now it's awkward.

I tried to make that one, but failed terribly.
This thing looks like a huge pain in the backside. The Mini was hard enough.
Me too!
Luckily, we still finished the race.
Scott, I'm gonna need to you to go ahead and come in on Saturday. Yeah.
How funny, Scott was my hope to win weekend blogger at redacted, better he is here now
Wow, you remember that? Cool. I'll hand it to Joslin, he does a nice job over there.
You all should definitely check out Scott's webpage as it is truly awesome, but keep your distance if you meet him in person – he smells bad.
Just kidding buddy! Congrats on hitting the bigtime – now get back to work on our Lemons car!
Hey Scott, What's happenin'.
Hi, Scott! Welcome! Do this.

Why must you kill my productivity at work, Hooniverse… Why?!?!?!?!

Karmatose must be working for a rich company! Mac, color printer, nice scissors…
Hah… I'm a graphic designer and make mostly packaging materials. I make paper models of what I'm sending to production or trying to get approval on. It's much easier to show someone something in 3D vs a flat diecut populated with artwork on my computer screen.
Bonus points if you can name the Hot Wheels cars on my desk.
Not *that* fancy – he's not got the wireless keyboard.
Looks like a pair of Mazda 3s back there.

LOL! I heart number pad. I actually swapped the wireless keyboard with a spare wired one I had at home because who works on spreadsheets at home?
Anyway, not quite right on your guess…

It's a Renault Mégane Trophy and a Porsche 911 GT3 RS.
… Also, protip to anyone who has access to it, use 3M Super77 spray glue on the tabs to stick these things together. Almost instant hold vs white glue.
Nice work on the 510! You can just chuck those others now.
The E30 stays. However, this has inspired me to make a paper E30. Preferably a huge one on 11"x17" paper.
I'm quite practiced at origami boulders.

Maybe it's time I start to challenge my abilities.
Do limestone next!
Hey Scott, welcome! I've seen your comments on this site and visited your blog a few times. There are some great posts there, and I look forward to seeing more here! Good start. Killing my productivity too…
This has totally made my Friday! Lately I've wanted to buy toy versions of all the cars I can't afford (just like when I was a kid!), but now I can print them for free!!
Wife Approved!
Glad I could help your marriage!
Just being pedantic, this is more like kirigami rather than origami.
Here is my first incredibly lackluster attempt. I couldn't figure out the bumper area, and I was using incredibly light, cheap paper and tape…

Still fun though!
Wait… Just… A… minute… that's a RED statpler!
And a Swingline at that!
Oh, it's exactly what you think it is.
Now, can we talk about that hideous snarl of cables? You don't email your mother with that mess, do you?
That actually came up on the other forum I cross posted this on. (linking back to Hooniverse, of course!) Thus, I have a picture of the extent of the epic mess.

It continues back behind the computer case as well.
