Live-ish from Detroit, it’s the Hooniverse!!

Good Morning! Today we, and by “we” I mean “I”, are/am in Detroit for the North American International (so which is it, North American or International?) Auto Show! Actually, that’s a good question, why are they calling it international? Where the hell are French cars? This should be called the Detroit United States Domestic Market Auto Show, or DUSDMAS. That has a nice ring to it too, a lot like Du hast, which could be its theme song.
Anyway, here is how it works: there are press conferences scheduled throughout the day by each manufacturer. Like cattle, dozens, perhaps hundreds, of professional automotive journalists go to each of these press conferences for food to tell each other how awesome they are to report the breaking news as it happens. With the exception of one or two of these press conferences, I won’t be doing that. I will simply be wondering around aimlessly by myself reporting back on whatever stuff I find interesting (At the New York Auto Show, for instance, Mitsubishi had donuts with bacon bits and Mazda had a race car which was missing brake calipers (and en engine)). I am also taking requests, so let me know whatcha wanna see… and remember, this is my first time doing this LIVE!!-ish “blooging“, so don’t expect too much.

1) North America consists of Canada (America's hat), the United States, and Mexico (America's galoshes?), so technically it is international.
2) Way to set some high expectations.
3) Donuts with bacon? Why was I not informed?!?!?!?!?!?
Right, but there is not Canadian or Mexican market cars here, just US, so call it what it is.
I have a pic of those bacon donuts, somewhere.
Ah, but how many of the US market cars are built in Canada and Mexico? See, international!
Of course, it's in the same vein as MLB having a World Series.
And how many Mexican and Canadian (man that's a lot of As) auto manufacturers are there? No, really, how many?
Also, pics or they didn't exist. (but will soon) — Wow! Wrap bacon around a Krispy Kreme! How's that for some delicious, heart stopping bacony-donut action?

Canada: some pre-war brand I can't remember, Bricklin (about as Canadian as DMC was Irish, but whatever), Intermeccanica, HTT/Locus (I think this is stuck in eternal supercar microfacturer prototype limbo), Nova (bus), Foremost (not sure they actually make anything street legal), and Campagna.
Mexico: That AMC CKD thing, and that supercar Top Gear made fun of. Probably a bunch more.
Hey, I remember '92 and '93. I don't know how long it'll be until the Jays do it again, but still.

I imagine the hooniverse DUSDMAS theme song to be more like this, but with BLOOG instead of SPAM. Also the related video makes me want to move to the Netherlands (I think). Have fun at the show Kamil!
I would love to see some coverage of the new Chevrolet concepts, the 130R looks particularly appealing!
Second the 130R. Finally a domestic performance car that stands on its own instead of hiding behind a classic nameplate, yet still has that feeling of the good ol' days. I'm already putting a 350 in it in my head right now…
Kamil, may the longrooffan's spirit be with you!
The more RWD available the better, the coverage on Jalopnik really irked me considering how much they bitch about the lack of enthusiast cars around these days. But then I remembered it was probably a ploy for more comments and page views *sigh*
Even though it stands on its own, I certainly wouldn't mind them calling the production version "Nova" or "Chevelle"…
Nova works for me as the Chevelle has always been bigger then a Camaro
Chevy III!
I plan on doing an Auto Show meetup. Find me on G+ or respond here.
Maybe these guys stole those brakes.

"Detroit United States Domestic Market Auto Show, or DUSDMAS"
Somehow I feel like 'Major Auto Show!–Detroit United Domestic States' would be more appropriate.
MAS DUDS
Ah, nice!
