Italian-American muscle machine mash up leaves us… confused

It’s called the Tractorri, and the oddball automotive mash up mixes two unlikely vehicles against each other in an all-out assault on the senses. At first glance, the car seems like prior-generation Ford Mustang wearing an odd body bit and the wrong wheels. Take a peek inside or under the rear glass, and things take a far stranger turn.

Underneath the skin, this Mustang hides an Italian secret… it’s actually a Lamborghini Gallardo. Che cazzo!

Tractorri made it’s debut at the 2007 SEMA show, but it recently popped in to Irvine, California for a visit to Cars and Coffee. Click past the break for more photographs, courtesy of our friends at CNCpics.com.

While the idea of a 520-horsepower Mustang is always one that I can get behind, I’m not in love with going about it in this manner. We poke fun of folks that turn their Fiero into a Fauxrrari. For some reason, the creator of the Tractorri has decided to flip things around, messing with our brains in the process.

I was minding my own business, standing next to the R-Spec Genesis sedan (review coming soon) that I drove to that lot that morning. Leo, one of the always present photogs for CNCpics and a friend of Hooniverse, sauntered over and told me I HAD to go see the car parked up front. A short trip across the parking lot, and I was face to face with an automotive enigma. After awhile of staring and pondering, I walked back to the Hyundai where Leo was waiting.

My brain hurt.

Why would someone do this? Is this atrocious or awesome? Should the car be caned around a racetrack or crushed in a junkyard? Is it a sleeper or a super suck machine? So many questions, and I don’t have the answers to any of them.

Of course, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to drive it. After all, it’s still a Gallardo under its formerly-Ford skin. Any Lamborghini is fun to drive, and Ferruccio’s heart and soul are still hiding amidships in this Italian-American… thing.

What say you, the beloved Hooniverse readership, is this awesome of awful?

Here in the ‘Verse, we’re not keen on ripping apart the hard work of others, even if we disagree with the ultimate product. Still, the Tractorri is an incredibly polarizing machine, and we don’t know how to feel here.

Minds.Blown.

I’m going to stop “talking” here so you can take a stroll through the rest of the photos below. Sound off with your opinion in the comments below.

Great craftsmanship, but [Anything + Deliberately imitating something else that it isn't – logical reason why*] = automatic fail

*butterfly moths and inflatable tanks are both awesome.

  2. Scandinavian Flick says:

Tractorri? Should be the Lambord Gallardang, or the Forghini Mustardo.

I'm really not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, I have always kinda had a thing for blasphemous swaps. On the other hand, that rear end is really oddly executed, and I do not like that part of it at all. I just can't picture that sound coming from that car either.

I'll take that Integra bodied Mustang from a while back instead.

  3. Irishzombieman says:

    Nicely done. Very nicely done.

    Side note:
Am I the only one who thinks of chickens every time I see the word "Gallardo"?

  4. OA5599 says:

I'm fine with it, but I have a question for those of you who object to a Lambo that looks like a stang:

Do you call it Bullshit or Horseshit?

  5. jeepjeff says:

Speaking as an Italian American, I think I like it better the other way around:

    <img src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/7/7a/Detomaso_pantera_seite.jpg/640px-Detomaso_pantera_seite.jpg" />

Still, a very confusing car, as I really like Ford V8s, so I cannot see myself swapping one (of course, this could have donated its heart to something else, I have no idea).

  6. $kaycog says:

    While I don't…..actually, I kind of…….but then…….I can't know why……..yeah, I'm confused.

Let me show you Derelicte. It is a fashion, a way of life inspired by the very redneck, the steroid enthusiasts, the secretaries that make this wonderful car so unique.

  8. Number_Six says:

It'll only get street cred if they stuff a Ford 9" in the rear. You know, for the drag racing.

  9. mdharrell says:

Using a Mustang II instead would have earned my undying admiration.

  10. CJinSD says:

I appreciate that it traded a couple feet of front overhang for rear overhang. I find it less unattractive than the Gallardo it's based on.

  11. vwminispeedster says:

I saw it at SEMA back in 2005 and it looked good riiiiiight up until the rear where you wonder why the hell it needed 6-12" extra of rear length and so MUCH Gallardo mesh/screen-ness. But it was built well and it still works so I go no hate for that.

  12. Hammer says:

This is how to spend a lot of money to get a car which looks much worst than the two original ones.

  13. HycoSpeed says:

First off, tell Leo those are really nice shots of the car. But I have to know, camera on a pole, or did he climb a tree?

    <img src="http://hooniverse.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/cnc-15.jpg" width="300">

I like the car. It is ridiculous, and I can think of many things to buy with the money, but it is a crazy exotic Italian drive train gussied up like a good old American muscle car. If that's revenge for all those poorly executed Fierarri's, I'll take it.

  14. Critical question: Does it have a Lambo door kit on the Mustang doors?

  15. Van_Sarockin says:

It better have Lambo doors. I've always liked the styling of the new-gen Mustang, far better than the Gallardo's insectoid inspiration. So this is rather pleasant. They've butched up the Mustang significantly, getting everything to fit, but the quality of the execution is astounding. Sign me up.

  16. BlackIce_GTS says:

My crypto-purist sensibilities are mildly offended by a lot of stuff, but not this. One, it's been made into something less prestigious than what it started out as. Two, nothing rare has been lost.
Don't love it, don't hate it, but it's interesting.

(Two and a half, I never really liked Gallardos anyway).

  17. craigsu says:

Styling-wise it's a step up from the Gallardo for me. I'm not a fan of sharp-edged angularity, thus my continued hatred of all things in the current Cadillac stable.

I have no idea how to post a photo, but this reminds me of the Golf bodied 928.

  19. citroen67 says:

This thing makes absolutely no sense to me.

Take an extremely sought-after automobile, and drape the body of a car that cost a fraction of the price over top of it.

To me, it would be the equivalent of taking a 1967 Triumph Bonneville and trying to dress it up as a Honda Spree moped.

  20. Jim-Bob says:

I love it. I love it because I like things that piss off car snobs and this juxtaposition of worlds does it magnificently. It makes an artistic statement about the essence and nature of the class structure in this country by mixing the mechanics of an expensive exotic with the body of a redneck musclecar. It's the reverse of the typical aspirational kit car that you normally see. It is not something done because it makes the underlying product better but rather to evoke emotions in the beholder, and that makes it art.

It does make you think too about the nature of human life. Under the surface, all people need the same basic things. A car can be many things but in the end, whether it's a Gallardo or a Metro, it serves the life function of transportation. A mansion or a single wide trailer is shelter and a place to sleep and eat. Clothes provide protection from the elements. The differences exist in the frilly trappings of opulence and brand-snobbery that our consumer-driven society tells us we are to strive for. This piece questions all that and makes the viewer confront their own preconceived notions of value that we place on other people because of superficial differences that denote class and prestige. As such, I love it and would really and truly enjoy driving it.

  21. Sales Geek says:

Is it true that if you get up close, you can hear it whisper "Kill me…kill me…."?

  22. TDI_FTW says:

If it would also look like a mustang from the rear and side I would have liked it better. Now it looks somewhat awkward from the rear.

Plus, if you want something to be less flashy than a lambo, make it less flashy.

  23. Manic_King says:

So, I suppose owner wanted fast AWD Mustang with mid-engine balance. Makes sense. But the execution, maybe sleeper version would be OK, some color hairdressers like, no spoilers and no Lambo wheels. But it would still need proper Mustang back end, not this. Pointless exercise and strange result. It's as low as normal Gallardo so no point there either. Not my cup of tea.

  24. SSurfer321 says:

I don't like all art but can appreciate the craftsmanship in creating the piece.

I don't know if I like this but the craftsmanship is top-notch. I think the rear kills it for me.

  25. muthalovin says:

Ford GT is still better. Much, much better.

  26. dculberson says:

I love it. A big middle finger to both European car snobs and American muscle car obsessives. It made you think, didn't it? And that alone makes it worlds better than yet another blacked out flared supermegaturbocharged Roushelbeen Blackamagundous Specialspermtastic Whoozamaversion of the Mustang.

I suspect the builder/owner is not someone that needs props on the internet. But if they want it, they've got mine. Good job on confusing the plebes.

  27. I will use my new 100p status to say "No." I respect the build, I respect the craftsmanship. But really, you should use your powers for creating beauty.

  28. Stealth V8 says:

Hey Guys & Girls what's the DEAL!…Isn't this AMERICA!, The Land of Free & etc.? One can spend his or her MONEY as they please! I Love it! To be creative like that and can afford to hire someone to bulid your DREAM CAR! Based on the pictures it looks very well built! Back end included, but I do hope it has lambo doors as well. GOOD JOB over all! My only question is why you didn't interview the owner and most of your WHY? questions could have been answered?
