What new car would you want to get or give as a gift?

Hooniverse Asks Round Three…
Damn Lexus commercials always have thinking of what car I’d like to receive for the Holidays (I am not calling it “Christmas” to be PC). Since I am weird and particular and I like old cars which no one can understand, I would be more happy to give than to receive (OMG, imagine finding an RX400h with a bow in your driveway, and then having to make 59 payments on it?!). My wife would get a black G550 (it’s one of 3 cars that she actually likes/cares for), my mom an Audi TT ‘cabrio (she wants a year-round convertible), and for my brother, who does not care about cars, does not maintain them, parks in the city, and generally bangs them around… hmm, I don’t know, a Wrangler?
What would you like to get or give? Caveat, is that it must be new and the recipient must keep it and use it for three years. Similarly, what would you like to receive? And be specific, image if you asked for a Cayman but received a similarly sounding Cayenne? The horror.

I would give my wife an MX-5. She would love it but probably wouldn't buy it for herself.
From a practical point of view (seating for 4), I really dig the A7 and its wood accented interior.
I saw one last week for the first time. Gorgeous.
I would love to get my dad a Jaguar XF. He's stuck with a 2000 Buick Le Sabre on borrowed time, yet refuses to buy another car for himself. The man's worked hard and deserves something nice.
As for me, my life would be made if I got a BMW E90 M3
What's wrong with the moving couch?
It's about to die a catastrophic death, and I just know it's going to be when all 4 of us are hours away from home.
I would love to get my mom her first automotive love: A sky blue '67 Camaro.
<img src="http://i.imgur.com/UnAje.jpg" width="500"/>
Oh, it has to be new? Even my parents don't like new cars… Fine, I'll get her one of the brand new '69 Camaros. http://www.classicautomotiverestoration.com/turn_…
In all likelihood, she doesn't know the subtle differences anyway. She just loves the 1st generation Camaros.
As for me, I'll take the same thing, thankyouverymuch.
Either that, or an Ariel Atom or rotary-powered Caterham 7.
As it happens that is my Mom's dream car too (at least in some sort of blue…) I would love to get one for her. One day…
If I'm going with realistic price range and practicality, I'd want a Sonata Turbo. Oddly, a friend who's got one left yesterday on a two week trip and loaned me his. WOO HOO!
<img src="http://www.ridewithg.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/2011_hyundai_sonata_se_turbo.jpg" width="500/">
Get rid of the realism, and I want a road legal, Alitalia-liveried Stratos. Betcher ass I'm gonna drive it everywhere.

I would give somebody a Lamborghini Aventador, which means that I would be very wealthy, which means I could buy me a Ford GT. I live in a fantasy world.
Can you give the Aventador to me?
Sure! Remember that you have to keep it and use it for three years.
I promise the car will have at least 50k miles on it in that time.
If money were no object, I'd get my mom an S65. She has a thing for Mercedes. If someone were gifting me a car, I would appreciate a Alfa Romeo 4C.
I would love to have one of these show up in the driveway one day with a big bow on it:

If I ever won the lottery this would show up for my wife:

I would love to get a Peugeot 208 as a gift…

Especially if she brings it!!!
Or a BMW 1M Coupé in Black or white, NOT an orange one!

When giving away new cars, I just give people what they want
I know it is all subjective, but I love the Valencia Orange. It really makes the louvers and vents pop on the car.
I am more than a little bit weird, so I would have to say either a Pak Suzuki Cultus (It's like a new 1989 Geo Metro 4 door), a new Lada 2107 (still made in Kazakhstan if memory serves), a UAZ 469 in military green or a Lada Niva Marsh. Yes I know it sounds strange and no I am not trying to be a troll. I just find modern cars distasteful and yearn for simple, basic transportation with few luxuries to go wrong. Sadly though that is not really available in the US anymore as simple cars have been pretty much legislated out of existence. Along with them went new cars you could service yourself with basic tools and anything with an affordable price tag.
At any rate, if you are curious here is the website for UAZ: http://www.uaz.ru/eng/models/uaz-469/ Yes, they really have changed little since being designed in the USSR 40+ years ago.
Whoa. Looks like they pulled old tooling out of storage and didn't change much. Weird that the website's in English.
I want it.
Below, a little something for a fellow Metro driver. Nobuhiro Tajima's twin engine, center-driver Cultus from the 1993 Pikes Peak hill climb. The good stuff starts around 1:00.

Hmm… that gives me an idea as to what I should do with my spare 2 door Metro shell that's sitting by the pool in my back yard. I wonder if 2 turbocharged Hayabusa engines would be sufficient to power a 1600lb Geo?
On the UAZ, the 469 is not the only Soviet model they still sell. They still have the awesome 4×4 van, along with a stake bed variant of it as well. It appears they have even upped the power over the communist days as it no longer seems to run the GAZ Poebda (Victory) engine.

Wow. Timken bearings were hardly a big deal when that beast was designed.
Jim-Bob, I saw my Lada Niva review, right?
That car actually belongs to my father.
Wow, I've been doing this "imaginary loving uncle" scenario pretty often already, so I'll outline the process here.
First, as a 21-year-old, I would pick out a car that aforementioned uncle would think of as a "teenager's car":
Mazda 3, GT trim, premium colour, some accessories like iPod adapters, spoilers, and other accessories. 30,039.75 plus tax= 34,103.29 CAD
Top o' the line, too! Now, I would persuade nice imaginary uncle not to spend it on such a vehicle, instead I'd have a car of similar value:
2011 Ford Mustang V6, Track Pack= 24,990 USD= 25,494 CAD plus tax= 26,902 CAD
Dodge Challenger, R/T, Header Orange ($0!!) no options, in the USA: 29,320 USD=29,912 CAD plus tax= 32,155 CAD
(costs 40 grand in Canuckistan because they bundle the R/T up with leather and other stuff)
2012 Ford Mustang GT, 3.73 posi, front skirt= 31150 USD = 31,779 CAD plus tax= 34,162 CAD
2012 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT no options= 32,380 USD = 33,034 CAD plus tax= 35,511 CAD
Will decide between the Challenger or Mustang. Decisions, decisions…oh wait.
And of course, car gifting. I agree with Vavon; the best course of action is letting them pick it out themselves, but anyway…
For my friend who promised me he'd pay my tuition if he ever wins the lottery, a GTI in a subtle colour. He doesn't care for cars much, just something small and practical. A little extra go juice and good handling shouldn't hurt. My mom would like something with traction control. She likes the way the newly redesigned Civic looks. Hmm…gotta think about that one…and for that special little someone probably a Beetle Turbo, CooperS, maybe even a Veloster. She can pull those off and I kinda want to drive those too! I might find out soon if going to an auto show would count as a date…
Oh crap! Sorry Lotte, I wanted to give you a thumbs up, not a thumbs down…
I undid the thunbs down…. Maybe another hoon can get Lotte another thumbs up
Fin.
Good man!
Thanks dude!
For the first Valentine's Day I had with my fiancee, we went to the auto show together (with tickets she got me for Christmas). She doesn't love cars, but she doesn't care for Valentine's Day much, so she didn't mind. We'd probably have done it again if I hadn't been working the past two auto shows.
Nothing too over the top. I think I would really like the new Charger R/T in either orange or black. Perfectly reasonable 4 door family car.
Get: Has to be new, huh? A Wrangler with one of those Brute pickup kits.
Give: A Lexus hybrid (most of the folks I know aren't big car types).
Is it sad that I pine for a six-year-old economy car? (2006 MINI Cooper S)
Cooper S'es are hardly economy cars? I think. They sell Mini One's overseas: those are the stripper models. Maybe those could be considered economy.
Now a Smart car…
Fuel economy is one of the bonuses! My '05 S delivers 9L/100Km, if I keep the right foot in check.
Icon 4×4 FJ45 with the Cummins 2.8 and an AX-15
<img src="http://icon4x4.com/sites/icon4x4.com/files/imagecache/Preview/gallery/IMG_4583.jpg">
My only issue with Icon's creations is that they would be difficult to title and tag in some states. Don't get me wrong, I would gladly take this over some overstuffed couch of a pickup truck as is common today. It's just that it is a lot of money for something that may not be able to be legally used on the street.
@Jim-bob – the best part about gifts is it's not your money so it doesn't/shouldn't have to be 100% practical.
I think I'll take the either the Bronco or the four door FJ though please. I love the bronco because it is exactly the work art I would create had I the time resources (or skill), but the FJ is made out of Aluminium and will probably last longer than me which is hugely appealing
I'd like to give alla y'all hoons a few thousand new old cars. Here's a '57 year old film – in color Panavision – of a car trip around San Francisco. Besides all those cars, seen from behind a stately chrome hood ornament, you can also partake of cable cars, aerial trams, and a steam locomotive. And it winds up with a drive down Lombard Street – the twistiest street in the US.

Thanks for making this such a wonderful year!
Hmm, A Jaguar XFR, Lotus Carlton, or Volvo V70R..
Or all three
I "gave" my wife a brand new Fiat 500. By "gave" I mean I bought it with her money and both our names are on the title. I may have "influenced her decision slightly" though…
My brother gave my dad a used truck for Christmas. He needed a smaller truck because his 1 ton four door full size bed truck is too long when hooked up to his boat trailer. The combined unit is too long back in to his garage because of a tight turn. When I asked my brother where the big red bow was, he said they cost about $35 so no bow for you!
If someone was to park a brand new Focus SE wagon, with the sport package (I loathe drum brakes), in any of the three blues offered, in my driveway tomorrow, I'd cherish it for a decade or so and cheerfully relegate my 745 to dump runs and winter hoonage.
Of course, we're not good enough for the wagon, and a hatchback doesn't quite cut it for practicality in my mind.
I'd cheerfully settle for a TSX wagon, so long as someone swapped in a manual gearbox beforehand. In my world, one of the best reasons to buy a Honda is for the shifter, and it'd be a shame to let that opportunity go.
What would I buy for someone else? Well, I have a certain interest in inheriting "Entie", and the little guy's starting to get up there in mileage for a 2001 model VW, so I could see a Reef Blue 2.0T/manual/sunroof Beetle ending up under my mother's carport.
While I was at it, my father's '96 F-150 (2wd, 300, five-speed) is a bit rusty and starting to develop its share of issues, most recently low/fluctuating oil pressure. Being a truck man who's currently stuck with an automatic late-'90s Civic as a daily driver, I'm sure he's feeling some pain – but Ford won't sell you a new half-ton with manual shift, so fuck 'em.
Oh, and a good friend has lusted after the Evolution for years; the X may be softened and watered-down, but that'd just make it a more feasible daily driver. (Given that Mitsubishi's working on not existing, I suppose now's the time to buy, anyway.) On top of that, I'm sure I'd be the one driving it, as the odds of him losing his license in a few weeks aren't really in his favour. Make mine, er, his, a blue or black GS-R with no pointless options save HIDs and a pair of Hellas mounted on the nose.
I got my wife a 325i for her birthday four years ago to replace her 100K mile Toyota Matrix. For her birthday in 2012 she wants a 335i cabrio. As next year is a special (big) birthday and as I 'got her a car previously' I am not sure how I can avoid this, unless I can talk her into a mere 328i cabrio, in red, with black leather and $10K in options no doubt…..
Note to guys, once you get your wife/girlfriend/boyfriend/life partner a car for their birthday, they expect you to repeat it every few years and the expectations get higher and higher…….
My wife would love a Nissan Titan or a Jeep Wrangler. Me, I'd settle for a Cayman R.
I would give my wife an Audi Q7 3.0 TDI, and I would like to get in return a Cadillac CTS-V wagon with the manual please.
Good choices!
I think I am finally ready to be gifted with a CTS-V wagon. In red, please.
Super-Spouse and I both want a Fiat.
<img src="http://www.tuningmag.net/images/news/carzone_fiat_500_18012008/Fiat-500-NEW-vs-OLD.jpg" width="600">
My father and I would exchange the same car: Boss 302. We would race them for 3 years, I imagine.
If you're very good, Mr. Scroggzilla gives you a Flying Car on your Birthday. Please use responsibly.
