Mystery car fully revealed – ’72 Karmann Ghia
This is the third of the Mystery Cars we had on Friday and the one which gave you hoons the most difficult time. It wasn’t until over an hour later that bv911 got it right, an eternity by Mystery Car standards. More pics and details after the jump. The car also happens to be for sale.
It’s a ’72 Karmann Ghia which is for sale by a friend’s neighbor in New Jersey. It originally belonged to his grandmother who bought it new in 1972 in Maine. She left him the car in her will when she passed away. He has many spare parts for it, including another engine, original wheels, and boxes full of parts. He’s selling it because he needs the space in the garage and he hardly has time for it anymore.

That sure looks like a clean example. An awesome car for sure, but this is one of those cars that make the list of vehicles that I have huge respect for, love to look at and ride in, but would never actually own one myself. I'm not even really sure why, but it just doesn't make the jump to that other list. That's the problem with having such a huge list of "must own" cars. Some really awesome stuff gets bumped for feasibility reasons…
Being an enthusiast is tough.
Amazingly straight body – the nose looks like it's never been crunched. So this is a prize to fight over. The interior is a little worn – especially that cracked dash pad. All in all, pretty simple to polish up into a showpiece.
The car is very straight. Drove very well. "Toight…like a toiger"
Do you have any idea how tough it was for me to keep my mouth shut?? Err….keep my fingers from typing…. 0_o
I had faith.
Oooh, a Bosch blue coil. I stand in awe.
Ah, if only it were a Type 34.

What are those rims on that Joisey [FS] Ghia? They look an awfully lot like the Carrol Shelby SAAB rims (which do fit the Bug/Beetle and I assume the Ghia) but they have the wrong lugs and the rim shape looks off…
TIA!
I do not know. Sorry.
