Are you sure that's not a Dacia? If so, maybe the chain is there to protect the post from theft.

Back when I lived in a questionable neighborhood in SLC, I always locked a Club to the steering wheel of my F100. However, that didn't prevent the local a**holes from stealing my battery. Sumbitches also wrecked the factory battery hold-down bracket. If you're gonna rip me off, at least show a little bit of class and respect and not ruin what you did not steal.

I'm so glad I don't live in the ghetto anymore.

Years ago, I had a battery stolen from my '68 Bonneville. I came out of a party at one apartment complex (I had parked across the street in another one). It wasn't well-lit (but okay, I was half-lit), and when I unlocked the door, I noticed, "Hey, no dome light". Then saw the hood open, but not latched. I had to borrow a battery to get home. The next day when I went to buy one, I bought some chain and a padlock. I pulled the battery tray out, ran the chain under the tray, reinstalled it, and locked the battery down with the chain and padlock.

Taking his glass, wheels and door locks with him also seems to be part of the security strategy.

"Don't you authorities be removing my parts car from the public street!"
