Mystery Car!

Robert Emslie October 21, 2011 Mystery Car

Oldsmobile

You want a real mystery? Then tell me this, what the hell happened to Mandy Moore? I mean, she was like this super popular teen singing sensation – the modern equivalent of Donny and Marie without the annoyance of Donny – and then after a few poorly chosen movie roles she’s now relegated to doing some cookie cutter TV sitcom? Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Well, today’s Mystery Car and Ms. Moore – wait, she’s married isn’t she? Mrs. Moore? More or less? Whatever. She and today’s car both share a history of unfulfilled promise, a capacity to make a difference that is – in Mandy’s case  - yet to be accomplished, and in that of the car of the Mystery Car never to be. That’s so sad, if only this were an M. Night Shyamalan movie where a clever twist at the end would put Mandy Moore behind the wheel of our black and white contender on her way to pick up a Nobel Prize for both her and the car. Then again, his movies suck.

Okay, you know the drill bit, make, model, engine, year, blah blah blah. Get to it!

[Mystery Car is now brought to you by our friends at AutoShepherd.com. Yes, we sold out on this one, but we did it with the right people. AutoShepherd has parts for all of you, and you know you need parts. Plus, free shipping on orders over $50 can't hurt, right?]

    1975 Nissan AD-1 Concept!

And I even have the picture!

I stole it from carstyling.ru, which also gets all the credit for me knowing the answer, due to hours wasted just looking at stuff there.

  2. Well… um, I guess we in fact did NOT make this harder. You guys are ridiculous…(ly awesome)

I'm just curious why that picture of that car left an impression deep enough that I remembered it so quickly. Dammit brain, you're just confusing.

I haven't been active on here for long, but I am familiar with a lot of the people here. It's an awesome group, and I am definitely happy to be part of it!

Good job, Devin! So, now what do we do?

  4. I'll give the supplemental MC a shot…

ITS BEEN FIFTY MINUTES AND NO WINNERS!

      HOLY SHIT!!!

    • Bret says:

Looks kinda Abarth OT-ish. Off to google for a bit…

      Edit 12 minutes later:
And I'm stumped. It looks like it's based on the rear engined Fiat bits. I couldn't find any Abarth OTs with that crisp a cut on the Kamm tail, or the little vent chingus on top.

      Fail of my google-fu.

Is it one of those little cars that go in a circle at carnivals?

      • mdharrell says:

The proportions and the fit and finish (particularly on the wheel) do make me wonder whether Jo_Schmo is toying with us.

        • mr. mzs zsm msz esq says:

The thing is it's not bad metal flake my suggestion is unlikely, so you're right he's probably 'toying' with us. (Watch it will turn-out to be some Japanese car I have a photo of me standing in front of even.)

          • Jo_Schmo says:

Maybe I should do more Mystery Car posts! Also, there is no tom foolery here (well maybe a little to thwart image searches), this was an actual production car, albiet only 101 were made according to Wikipedia. That said, I agree the wheels look rather bizarre and out of proportion.

So I sometimes check the Kijiji classic car section, and I found this. I was not aware that the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe had already ascended to classic status.

  6. LTDScott says:

Mandy Moore was a semi-regular on Scrubs for a while. Without sounding skeevy, she was one of the few teen pop acts that looked better as they aged.
