Friday Mystery Car

Lotus Estoil

Okay, I know what you’re thinking, these Mystery Car contests are not even worth my time, they’re so easy. Well, today I’ve got one that’s so hard, so inscrutable in its diabolical cleverness and red-herring wild goose chase double cross that you’ll be pulling your hair out in frustration of not being able to crack th. . .

Oh who am I kidding, you’ve probably already figured it out. Go ahead, give it up – make, model, and engine, and I want ALL THREE this time. Don’t make me turn this blog around, people!

Go to it.

    I think it's British.

  2. dukeisduke says:

Wrong – it's red, not orange.

  3. P161911 says:

A Ginetta G15 with a Hillman Imp or VW engine.

  4. dukeisduke says:

The door cut lines don't look the same, and it's got a recessed pull handle, like the G21.

    • JayP says:

Fender flares, hint of a front bumper, the headlight bezel is body colored and the door handle is Miata-ish.
I got all that and still nuthin'.

  5. Festiva_Movemnt says:

The door handles don't match to the yellow one in the photo, but otherwise it looks pretty dead nuts.

  6. Festiva_Movemnt says:

I'm thinking that this may be Miata-based. So, for 30%, I'm going Mazda 1.6L I-4

  7. Manic_King says:

It's Ginetta, some (later?) cars had more modern looking door handles.

      That's it.

The greenhouse makes it look like it could have built in someone's garage. Talk about your cottage car.

    • Mike_the_Dog says:

      Definitely a G21 (foreground) not a G15 (behind). Being a G21, it had either a Ford Kent four , a 3l Ford V6 or a 1.7 Sunbeam Rapier four.

  8. Jo_Schmo says:

The wheels are a tad small to be an NSX

I have nothing to add to this discussion at this point so here is this:

  10. All I can add is that the Walklett brothers, who were based about twenty miles from here, AKA the Ginetta family, had an extremely attractive sister / daughter.

She was in my diploma year. Way out of my league.

That's a gorgeous little car. I've said it before and I'll say it again, we need the G40R here in the U.S.
