Hooniverse Asks- What’s The Worst Car Tie-In Ever?

Hello? It's for Douche.

Lamborghini cell phones, Jeep boom boxes, Dodge Magnum condoms, there are so many ways in which marketers try and get your money by appealing to your affinity for a particular car brand. Of course, we’re all smarter than that, aren’t we? Maybe not as a lot of car enthusiasts like to express their bond with a particular brand by wearing clothes emblazoned with the marque’s logos, regardless of the wearer actually having ever owned that particular marque. That typically results in the wearer themselves being branded. . . as a douche.

But it’s not just Lambo Underoos that makes car affectation frequently embarrassing, there’s also the aforementioned tie-ins – generally crap – that some owners can lean on for justification for their affection. And sometimes that stuff falls under the Jeopardy category of WTF for $1,000, Alex. I once had a Ford knife that I really liked. It was a folding pocket knife with the blue oval – only not blue – embossed into its side. Unfortunately, I tossed it on the dash of my mom’s ’78 Fairmont (yeah, I know) one time when I was borrowing the car, and it dropped down into the defroster vent. Shizzle.

That was a brand tie-in about which I was particularly proud, but there are others that are far less so endearing. What do you think, are the multi-thousand dollar wrist watches with Bentley badges really all that impressive? How about Ferrari jackets, or the similarly branded too-tight men’s tee shirts that make both wearer and viewer so uncomfortable? Are those among the worst car tie-in products around? If not, what are?

The best was a set of Daewoo towels I got form my step father in law. The logo looked a bit like a sea shell and my wife had made one of the bathrooms into a sea theme. It was a perfect fit.

It's amazing that Ferrari would hook up with a crappy manufacturer like Acer.

@Everyone: Hey guys I just wanted to give a heads up that I might not have internet Tomorrow(Monday) and I just wanted to type this out before and if anything happens. Skaycog, I hope you're back from your Christmas party out of town and I hope you enjoyed it. MZS, I'm glad Astrid does so well in the snow. I'm glad to hear that you spoke with Vavon and he is doing fine as well.

5056 – Oh and MZS, did you ever sign that petition?

Hey everyone! I missed a bunch of storm chases over the last couple of weeks and have a bunch of catching up to do. I'm busy with year end stuff at work now so I will be pretty sketchy again.

        $kaycog…

I hope you are doing well beginning the new year. I didn't have too much interesting food over the holidays. Lots of ham and potatos. The one thing that stands out though is my grandpa's lasagna. It is absolutely the best Italian food I've ever had. He's a damn good cook and it's always been an enjoyment for him.

        mzs…

It sounds pretty neat messing with faster than light detection equipment. I hope things work out with Aga and her friend. It's going to be a bugger of a month for me but I have a lot of exciting things to look forward two comming up! A concert near the end of January, my rotation assignment starting at work in February, and of course the Chicago Auto Show!

Ha Tower you replied to Mathew as well!

One time I had a foot in mouth thing happen between Matthew and me where I made a joke and it did not go well, but I apologized quickly. I think he's from Brazil, man I hope this time he joins in ;) Come to the fun side Matthew…

I think things are going better between Aga and her friend now, they are meeting some more friends to go out tonight. What is the concert you are going to?

@Skaycog: Sweet! Glad you found a new thread for us!! :) I wonder what Vavon is up too? We haven't heard from him in a long time. I'm glad you liked my view on Christmas. Anyway have you spoken to your brother in SC lately?

@MZS: I'm glad you guys enjoyed "Hugo" I think it looks awesome! I too often cry or at least get teary eyed in movies!(Like The Iron Giant, still makes me teary eyed today. Ever seen I saw it at the movies on the day it came out) I think I get it from my Mom, haha. Has it snowed yet in your neighborhood yet? How does your Volvo handle the snow, oh and about that, I'm forgotten the name you give it? :(

5053 – Everyone: I think you guys should sign up and sign this petition. It's very important! It's about lowing the importation limit to 15 years(like Canada) from 25 years as it is now. The petition needs 25,000 signatures by December 9th, 2011!

      Hi Skaycog,

Thanks for finding a new place. I was going to ask earlier on the morning question, but did not know how to. I have a hunch, did you ever give advice to your ex about what car to buy? If so, did he take it? See I think often men listen to women a whole lot more than the other way around in what to buy when it come to expensive or long term things. I think marketing has caught on. Anyway, Guard Duck is Angry Okie, the fellow that one COTD a couple of days back. I would not have noticed had you not told me about your COTD win. He's also Polish and we have exchanged emails before about old Volvos. He's a very funny person. I jsut sent him an email with congrats. Oh also I email ToP a few days back, well longer now, iot was for Thanksgiving. He's doing great, just busy with work.

      Have a good one,

      Hi BB,

Getting to see Iron Giant in theater is great! That or Up is Kevin's favorite cartoon, it's a great one! It think it had a very small release in theaters, so you are lucky. The first movie I ever saw in theater was E.T. that was something, I cried on that one too! They did not release it on VHS for a long time as well. It snowed a little last night, but melted right away, that has happened a couple of times. I've heard from Vavon just this last weekend, he liked the photos of the cookies the kids and I decorated, as far as I know he's doing well. The Volvo is named Astrid, but my kids picked the name. It was Michelle's idea, since at the time they were watching a lot of Pippi Longstocking and the author of the books was named something like Astrid Lindgred. Astrid just seemed the right sort of name for a Swedish lady of a certain age. I liked your idea of Isabella though and it does really well in the snow, though I only took her out once when there was no salt: It has skinny tires, I think that helps for it to dig down, and is up pretty high so those two things help, though the differential is not limited slip, so if I got stuck it would be difficult. If you just keep moving, no matter what, it's a blast! I'll have to do that petition from home cause the site did not work here, funny considering where I work, ha. Wait actually it might make sense, there is the rule about not using lab resources for campaigning, I wonder if that is why?

BB……..I did talk to my brother (in NC) just before Thanksgiving. We keep in touch often. I haven't even seen Vavon here for a couple of weeks……not that I read the posts more than once. I'm going out-of-town for a Christmas party tonight at a restaurant that used to be a church. They have excellent food, and I'm looking forward to it. Have a good weekend!

mzs, szm, ups……..I'm glad everything is okay with TofP……I was hoping that he was just super busy. I couldn't say that I gave my ex advice on car purchases, but we did discuss it, as we did all major purchases. It never mattered to me what the car was, as I'll drive anything. Our last purchase, however, was an Expedition, which I didn't really want, but he said he'd be more comfortable in it than an Explorer (tall guy). I got it in the divorce, and traded it in as soon as the divorce was final. Have a good weekend!

    • mr. mzs zsm msz esq says:

      Hi Skaycog,

See I have this theory that a good sign of if a marriage will work-out or not is if the guy always lets the wife choose the big purchases like that. Although I have seen an example where the guy let the wife choose a couch and she still they ended-up divorced, never has it been the case with a car ;) Sometimes I worry the things I write/say sound sexist (or even stupid) though. Did you have a good weekend? Ours was busy. Aga and I went on a date on Friday. She chose the restaurant, it was great, Naf Naf it was called, I think Lebanon or Palestine style food. Then we had game night.

      Hi BB,

Shoot I forgot to go to that petition, I will though. Like I said was busy weekend. on Friday Jake hit a girl that was bullying him. There was a lot to deal with that. Then the date with Aga, then the next two days Aga had to work. The first day the kids and I made ornaments from an old cover as a secret craft gift for Aga. The next day she thinks we went to watch wrestling, but instead we saw Muppets, finished the one ornament that was drying last time, and went to the mall to get a small gift for Aga. The kids got to play Kinect at the mall, and I got take-out the same place as Friday for Aga on Sunday. I had made a cooler of food for the kids. Oh I forgot, on Saturday I made curry and meatballs for dinner, oh wait we also watch "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids", oh and Kevin had a bass lesson, man there just keeps getting more I forgot about.

      Have a good one,

PS: I wonder if Mathew will join in? That's how I got started on all this, a stray reply long ago now.

    • $kaycog says:

zsm, zsm, nos……..Ha! I wonder what Mathew thought about this. And, yes, that's how you got involved in this whole thing. You probably thought we were nuts too, but you then became nuts too. You've never sounded sexist to me, just so you know. My weekend was excellent, as always, but nothing out of the ordinary after Christmas party Friday night. We had a little snow Saturday and a couple of inches last night. Snow is good, but the temps are COLD. It's going to be somewhere between -5 and -10 tonight. I hate extreme cold. Happy Monday!

BB……….I hope you have computer working again. The Friday night party was a lot of fun with excellent food. They had prime rib with new potatoes, fresh sauteed veggies, fruit compote, lettuce salad, and three kinds of desserts. I had a cream puff with real cream in it……….yum!

    • Buickboy92 says:

@MZS: Good morning! I'm glad you had a nice date with Aga, I hope you can get that bullying situation worked out with Jake, Bullying sucks, I know because I've been picked on in Middle School(Just for about a day, it was sort of a "fight", but that is a pretty long story) And another time was in High School, but I resolved that by talking to the kid that was doing it(The things he said to me were horrific, not really repeatable, but once I told him to stop, he told me why he was mean to people, not right out, but in so many words, again another long story) Anyway about signing that petition, you'll have to sign today as on the 9th(tomorrow) it ends.

@Skaycog: I'm glad you had a great Friday night, nothing new with me, although my friend who I told you about with the broken leg is back at work, he started back two days ago, Hopefully he'll be off today to come over, as we haven't talked in awhile. My Dad and I walk to the store so we saw him there. Oh and we updated our moving plans once more, instead of looking at Colorado to move to(as it is too far away to my Mothers liking, as she likes the area around PA & NJ, better) We still have PA & NJ, and finally as a third option we've added Maryland( we all like Annapolis area as a possible third spot, if either we move there or have a vacation home there in a few years(Not sure about many exactly) As of right now, we're playing the waiting game.

      Hey all!

Sorry I've been sporadic lately. The Michigan return put me behind and I'm busy trying to catch up so that I'm in good shape when the year end busyness starts.

Goings on in my life include my girlfriend and I celebrating our 6th year together. We saw The Muppets (as did mzs it looks like) and we both liked it a lot. One line stuck with me, the oil baron describing The Muppets replacements, The Moopets, "The Moopets are a hard cynical act, for a hard cynical world", boy isn't that the truth.

I also hit a deer with the Subaru a few weeks ago, damage isn't too bad (estimated at about $2,000, thank goodness for insurance) and it's getting fixed right now. In the meantime, I'm driving a base model 2011 VW Jetta loaner car.

I have also secured a rotational position at work into marketing starting next year, and I'm hopeful that it will transition me away from the accounting world. Funny video related.

Now time to catch up on the stormchaser discussions I've been missing!

BB, I did that petition last evening, but it's no where near the number of people that it needed, sorry. But it snowed here last night, so that's positive. Skaycog, phew the chick that gives wholesome trophies of birds doesn't think I'm sexist. We used to have Christmas parties at work, like eight years ago, those were fun. They have started doing a lab wide pot luck, it's not the same though.

Greetings, all…….The week started on Monday with an article on J. about that slime ball, Jesse James, crashing his Hennessey Ford GT. It didn't look like it sustained much damage…..maybe hidden damage. Then the week ended on Jalopnik today, with a yellow Ford GT crashed in Qatar, and it was severely damaged. What a terrible week for my car. A few glasses of wine tonight will help me feel better, I think. ;)
Buickboy…..I'm glad to hear your friend with the broken leg is back to work……good news. So, Colorado is out of the running for a new home for your family, but Maryland is in the running. I bet you'll be glad when the decision is made. How has your week been?
TowerofPower……too bad about your Subaru and the deer. It doesn't sound like the damage was too severe. I hit a deer in my '03 Explorer when it was a few months old. Luckily, it only cracked the grill and bumper, as I was pretty close to being stopped. I was very upset, but at least the deer didn't come through the windshield. Congratulations on 6 years with your girlfriend!
mzs……..I've had a busy week too and am looking forward to the weekend. Nothing out of the ordinary for me, but I have a lot to get done around the house. I'm sure your kids are eagerly awaiting Christmas. Is Aga pretty busy taking Santa Claus pictures? Have a wonderful weekend!

    • mr. mzs zsm msz esq says:

      Hi Skaycog,

It's going to be another busy week for me here :( Yes Aga is REALLY busy with the photo taking! I think she has only one day off this week, today, and she is meeting her friend to make some gifts for her and our daughters. They are really into Mermaids, there is this TV show from Australia that they watch, and they are making mermaid costumes. We were volunteer/participants for this thing called family connection. They pick us as a family to help out every so often and one of the questions was what should you do about Christmas gifts when you don't have a lot of money to spend. I suggested to make gifts, people did not like that answer, "You can't really make a Wii game," sigh.

Anyway, we had cookie decorating at the Racins' place this weekend. That was a lot of fun like last year. His wife does an excellent job of that. Their son has grown a lot, it was incredible for me to see him walking around everywhere, but I guess it should be no surprise, he's one and a half now after all! This year my boys were very well behaved as well. And yesterday my sons were at their first wrestling tournament, Jake won first place!

    • $kaycog says:

msz, mzs, doc…………..Yay, for decorating cookies! I love them! I can't believe Hatcher is 1.5 yo now! I'm glad your boys behaved this year. Also, congratulations to Jake for winning first place in wrestling tournament. That's great! I think I understand why people didn't like your suggestion of making Christmas gifts. Most of us aren't creative at all, but Aga and you are and do some neat things.
My Christmas shopping is done, not that I have that much to buy. It's a good feeling anyway. Storm is coming from the SW tonight, and I guess it's dumping lots of snow in the mountains. That's a good thing……….skiing and water sheds.

      Happy Taco Tuesday!

      5064

    • Buickboy92 says:

Hello MZS, I'm glad Jake won the wrestling match, You must be really proud of him. Anyway, nothing new with me, Although it did snow on Friday, and it layered a few inches, but is pretty much gone except for a little patch here and there. Have you got your Christmas Tree up yet? We haven't got a tree, as last year we got rid of our old fake one, thinking we'd be out of here by now, so it looks like we won't have a tree this Christmas. Funny though, my Mom and I saw this tree you could make to look like a "real" Christmas tree from one of her Martha Stewart magazines. I'll post a photo of it soon.

Hello Skaycog, It's nice to gift shop for other people, and anyway we've had Maryland in our minds for almost as long as PA & NJ. It's sad people keep crashing Ford GTs :( I wonder how many actually see track use?

BB………..So glad Friday is here, as it was a busy week for me. Nothing newsworthy for me to pass on to you all. I'm going out to dinner tonight……..either Mexican or Italian……don't know yet. It's going to be interesting to see how the original Stormchaser goes with added commenters. UncleBen put it on Oppo, and it got hit by about six guys, but we'll see who is in it for the long run. We're also going to try to go 100 comments before new thread. Any plans for the weekend?

      5066

    • mr. mzs zsm msz esq says:

      Hi BB,

Oh yes I was proud of him for doing so well! What did you mean about the real Christmas tree. One year my dad lost his job and we had this little table top Christmas tree with two ornaments, didn't matter. We didn't even have a house, just lived in the summer place that my father was fixing-up for some friends. Worst Christmas I ever had was the one that I was stuck in Poland away from my parents and brother, was with family, but just was not the same. And then the weather was so bad I had to stay even an extra day, I was so happy to see them again!

      Skaycog,

Well I wonder why you like those photos? HA! Anyway, I am going to be much more busy than I thought at work. Somewhere around March (though I really think it will be in June) there will be a shutdown, I was going to do a bunch of work then, but this will be a long one and they do not want me to everything in linac at the beginning and then a year later when they bring-up the rest see there are problems for the first time. So they want me to do as much as I can unobtrusively beforehand, holy crap! So it's things like I have to have two versions of software running concurrently, make room in nearby racks, slide in all the new hardware, then redo the cabling in the back and t-off where the signal is strong enough, just a real head ache, but it's what I get paid for, and in the end it feels good to get stuff done, so what ever.

We have a vacation coming-up, that's cool. But now we don't know what we are up to! Aga planned this vacation with her mom to Texas, but yesterday one of our friends asked if we would like to go with them to Alabama instead. Two of our kids are friends with theirs, so she's looking into it, might do that. But we were supposed to take a small trip to Wisconsin this month, but this week the friends we were supposed to go with called Aga and said because of the husband's school schedule something came-up and they can't do it anymore! Could we do it in January? But the prices are almost twice as high now and we were having one of our kids under their names (it was was a 2 adults 2 kids package, they only have one kid) so looks like we won't go, can get the money back, but will not let us use the great price anymore to move it to Jan. Whatever, we'll just do something extra special we would not have in March, Aga is great at planing that stuff.

      Have a good one,
      5067

PS: I went to see what was up with the original stormchasers and was greeted with a story about the Broncos QB and would you make love with him! Man that place get's under my skin. Glad you have revived the stormchasers, though I wish they would have come here instead so I could participate :( Seems a neat bunch those recent guys, have fun!

    • $kaycog says:

msz, zsm, cat………….It sounds like you're going to be super busy for the next few months. But I know how much you enjoy your job and a challenge. Good luck with it all. Not much going on here. The Saturday trip to the mountains fell through, but I did get a lot done around the house, etc. Today, I have an out-of-town appointment and will be having bacon-wrapped shrimp for lunch. YUM!
We may get a little snow tonight, but it doesn't sound like a major storm where I live compared to the extreme SE part of CO.

      Have a great Monday!

      5068

    • Tower_Of_Power says:

      Happy Monday!

I got my car back last week and boy am I glad to have it back. The Jetta was a decent car but the automatic transmission (not their DSG unit btw) was just awful. The Subaru looks good…there were some small overspray issues that I was able to remove easily with a clay bar but all in all they did an acceptable job.

Skaycog…I probably would have been much more upset if my car was only three months old too. But it's going on seven years and 120,000 miles with a front end that had been severely chipped and pitted from all of the gravel and salt they use here in the winter. Needless to say I took it pretty well. And they resprayed the whole front end so it looks better now than it did before I hit the deer! And what is this I hear from mzs about your relationship with Tim Tebow?

mzs…Congratulations to Jakob! That must be pretty exciting! I'm sorry to hear you've also been busy at work. I feel like I get behind at home and I don't even have kids yet! Also, I was going to ask if you had watched that special on NOVA Fabric of the Cosmos. I finally got around to watching it last week. It was pretty interesting, I had to rewatch some parts as I couldn't understand them the first time. Oh, and one of the scientists on the show was from Fermilab!

BuickBoy…That's a bummer about the Christmas tree. Is the Martha Stewart tree you are talking about a tree you make yourself? That would be cool to do. I made a small tree one year out of K'nex but obviously it didn't look like a real tree.

      Have a good Monday everyone!

      Hi Tower,

I watched the first two episodes from the show that aired this year on PBS. I was busy with other stuff and could not watch the last two. Did you see them online? I would like to watch them. It's great working here, because after the first one, my boss came by and Bob was visiting and we started talking about it. My boss was originally a Physicist and Bob was too just because there were no CS degrees back then, but he reads a lot and I had a question from the show about pulsars, and they were able to explain to me.

Anyway glad your cal looks better again. There were some neat announcements last week:

      Hi Skaycog,

I had a meeting, did not know if I would get a change to reply today. I hope you get a chance for the peace in the mountains soon. Boys had another wrestling meet, this one had better kids. Kevin and Jake lost all their matches :( Must they still liked it. I mean Kevin was smiling, he was like "That guy was good!" And really the kid was. This time they had so many boys they made sure that the more experienced kids were up against the least experienced so that the last four would be the most experienced most likely and not eliminated by the end. In the first match Jake lost when he was put in a cradle, he had no idea what that was and how to get out. The next one, he should have won. The ref made a mistake and he should have had two more points, but just like I say in soccer, sport is a lot about officials making mistakes and going on. Also he thought that the time was stopped after that and the other kid took him down when he was confused, so that was another 2 points that kid was ahead and he lost by 2, so see he should have won by 2. But he was not sad at all or anything. It's funny to watch how relaxed he is, one time he was just chilling by the scorers table sort of leaning on it with one elbow, ha!

A strange thing happened last night to me, kind of upsetting to me. I went to the monthly scout leaders meeting and after that I told everyone "Happy Holidays" because I thought it would be the last time I saw them. I have been saying that for years because once I wished a Jewish person a Merry Christmas and he made it intentionally awkward after that :( But one of the other dads was, "Don't ever say that again, it's Merry Christmas." I was shocked and tried to brush it off with, "And merry Kwanza or whatever to you too." He did not take that well. Wow. Anyway I'll just chalk it up to Holiday stress on his part, but I am not going to change to saying Christmas all the time, it just does not seem Christian, or polite even, to make it into some battle, yuck! A few years back we took Kevin out of scouting cause he was being bullied and back then the pack had a leader that was really religious and in that frustrating condescending manner (it was his son doing the bullying), it was just awkward. I hope the pack does not move that way again, we were told to minimize all the religious aspects because so many parents complained back then.

Anyway, to you as well, have a very merry hooniza holiday!

TowerofPower………It's a long story about Tim Tebow. There was an crossover article done in extremely bad taste which was about Tebow. I would not read it due to the horrible, distasteful headline. But, Tim Tebow is my latest heartthrob right now. Just wow!

Have a wonderful Christmas, if we don't see you before then.

smz, zsm, wow…….Good for Jake for not being upset about losing that match. That's what happens in life sometimes.

Some people make a big deal out of everything they can……..Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Seasons' Greetings, etc. I don't know what's wrong with some people. They try to make everything so complicated. I probably would have been upset too….don't worry about it.

      Happy Hump Day!

Happy Holidays to you and your family! I see what you mean about the tree now, neat. When I was a kid, one year I made one from and old magazine and green spray paint. I made an angel like that the year before with silver paint, magazine, and ball for the head. Neither were all that great really like your family's tree :) Today we finished decorating the car and homemade marshmallows. I can't wait to eat some tomorrow!

Nice improvisation on the Christmas tree! That looks pretty cool, heck I'd put that up every year with or without a normal tree. I might have to steal it and, with some small modifications, put something like that up in my yard next year.

        Happy Holidays!

Just click on "Watch The Program" to bring up their video player. It's some weird mind bending stuff.

I've seen a few articles about getting closer to finding the Higgs…it blows me away at how accurate (5 standard deviations) they have to be to declare a discovery. But you might as well be sure right!

We got some snow this morning which was really exciting! It looks great outside. Nice job on the van decorating!

They are great, way better than store bought ones. Anyway a story. This week we went to a local zoo, there they had pigs. I don't know if you know this, but I have a thing for bacon. Well until I saw the pigs, not only did they sleep where they pooped, but also pooped where they ate. YUCK!! Anyway so I started thinking, I need something else to really obsess about. One day on the radio on NPR I heard a listener letter about homemade marshmallows. So I made them. Aga wanted me to put them on the blog, so we took pictures. But I messed-up and the post disappeared :( ( am trying again now. A guy at work told me I should make taffy next, he used to as a kid with his mom. I have the candy thermometer now anyway, it's fun to pull he says and it sure does look like fun.

smz, zsm, doe………..Here it is two days after Christmas. I had a very nice Christmas, but this is the hardest time of year for me, as you can imagine. What did you have in the way of food?

Buickboy……….I received my favorite cologne, my favorite wines, gift cards and candy. How about you? Happy two days after Christmas?

      5082

    • mr. mzs zsm msz esq says:

      Hi BB,

Hope you had a great Christmas! We did, it's like we had three because of all the family we visited. The kids made out like bandits, I got some great presents too. My favorite was from Aga. It's a big map of the world. We hung it up on a wall in our dining room and have been putting pins on it where we have been. I think Aga's favorite was the ornaments that the kids made. She opened-up the bag and there was Jake's snake ornament and she burst out laughing. Wait you might not know this, but Jake has been obsessed with snakes for a while, anyway that's why it's funny to us.

Jake's favorite present is a remote control top, seriously. Sounds stupid, but in fact is stupidly fun. It uses a LED like in a remote control and the top has a motor with a pin out the bottom. You have four buttons on the remote and it makes it spin in various ways, like zig zags. Michelle is really happy with a pogo stick and so am I. The sad thing is that it is only rated to 165lb, but still she lets me use it. I don't think there is anything wrong with a grown man like me enjoying that so much. Kevin is pretty bummed in general lately though since his fish is sick. We've been giving her penicillin drops, but she just will not eat. Anyway so Christmas has been rough for him. We took him to Tin Tin, was the best movie I saw all year, he loved it too, that helped. He's played with his gifts, like Lego, but really he keeps getting sad about Ponyo. In fact his tics have gotten very bad again and Aga is seeing the doctor again tomorrow.

Oh man that's a bummer, sorry, have a good one everybody.

      5083

    • mr. mzs zsm msz esq says:

      Hi Skaycog,

I'm not going to have time to reply to you like you deserve, sorry, hang in there. Sometimes things are crappy, but other people are awesome and can help out. I'm glad you have good friends. I did not write this before since it was so sad, but Michelle's friend's dad passed away before Christmas too. It has been very tough for her mom in particular. The girl was over, still it's like it has not hit her, talks about her dad in the present tense. She really did love her dad, and the was a good dad too. Would follow her in the car on the way to school to make sure nobody messed with her (she's adopted and black, there was some crappy things kids did before to her). He was a very heavy dude, but man I'm going to be stupid again, he was the good fat stereotype, the kind that was full of joy and made you laugh all the time, so the world and that family in particular is a poorer place.

Dammit all, see I leaving for home late on account you, my friend. I don't want you to feel bad, I wish there was something I could say, but I can't. LongRoofFan used to write Celebrate Life, I really liked that, anyway I hope you get a chance to absorb some peace in the mountains some time soon. Again, hang in there.

    • $kaycog says:

zms, szm, alf………..I'm okay now and thanks for your concern. It's just the time of year. That's sad about the dad passing away at Christmas time. That will always be hard for them in Christmases to come. Gosh, it's in the low 60's here now and the snow we got last week is fast melting. This weekend would be a good time to go to the mountains…..I'll have to talk with friends about that.
What are your New Year's Eve plans?

      5085

    • mr. mzs zsm msz esq says:

      Hi Skaycog,

Alf, ha, I loved that show as a kid! Anyway was about to check in on you, glad you are doing better. You can go alone too to the mountains, well but check the weather and practical stuff like that first. Kevin's fish was doing very badly this morning, and I was wrong, it's today the doctor trip for him. He got this model kit of a Mustang (the plane) for Christmas from Aga's father. It's one that when he was in Poland he let his grandfather know he really liked, but he just has not had the heart to put it together. We made two puzzles over the last two days, but man it was hard at first with the tics. They've never been this bad.

Anyway, no more sad stuff, I have an optimistic secret wish, better not spoil it by gabbing about it, but I think Kev will be okay soon again. Aga put up photos of Christmas, some are funny:

I also gave Max a bath not too long ago after a trip to the bark park, man can that fur hold a lot of dirt! He's so fluffy now with the winter coat especially. There are more pictures in the usual place: http://agamama.blogspot.com/ There is also a set of 'PJs' that Aga got as a Christmas present for me, well she wears them instead of me, but still, I'm the lucky recipient :) :) :) :) I try hard to keep her warm.

The plans for New Years are strange this year, we celebrate early one day, Friday. My mom is taking the kids until Saturday morning. First Aga and I are going to a Brazilian steak place, then MI4 movie, then back home to spend some time with Max, then to a country themed dance hall, and then if we have the energy to another dance place, this one more hip hop and what not. We used to have a great place nearby we would go to called King Pin. It was next to a bowling alley. The people that went there were more our age, it was very nice. It turned into another place for the young kids. These kids suck frankly, well the guys at least. They just sit there and drink and don't get-up and dance with the cute women there that all they do is poke at their phones or talk, until really late in the night. I'll tell you the divorcees at King Pin, they tried hard and got results! How are you doing on the dating front? Say that's what you should angle for, a trip to the mountains with some guy.

      Have a good one,

PS: Did you see the funny story from Christmas dinner at my wife's aunt and uncle's house?

    • $kaycog says:

zms, smz, quo………..I am going to the mountains tomorrow, as the weather is supposed to be really good. It's supposed to be windy, but that doesn't bother me for driving. Sorry about Kevin's fish……it doesn't sound like it's going to end well. Evidently, that's why his tics are worse?

That snake Aga has it hilarious! No wonder she laughed and laughed. You look very happy with your XXXopoly game. Is it for adults only? Oh my. ;)

I have several guy friends who are really my buddies, but nothing romantic.

No, I didn't see your aunt and uncle Christmas dinner story.

      Happy New YEAR!

      Skaycog,

The uncle story is here: http://atomictoasters.com/2011/12/tempus-fuggit/#… The Kansas vixen with the name nothing like Katy or Kathy it turns-out was in those Christmas photos on Aga's blog, guess which one ;) We all just wished a happy new year to all our relatives in Poland, looks like we will have to call my cousin and his family in Ireland next. But we have about the same time a bunch of kids coming over. This morning Aga and I decided to make a New Years party for our kids, so they each invited some friends and we planned a bunch of fun games. We also have some food ready, should be great. So we might not get to call, man I stray when I start typing…

Wind in the mountains is nothing to sneeze at, be cautious. When you are ready to date again, look into eharmony. It's a website and more and more people I know are getting married to people they first met there, so it really seems to be good. They seem to prefer religious Church going people too. And that's the funny thing, When I was 18 the majority of people I knew getting married was to people they knew from Church, now it's that wen site, go figure. And thanks DARPA BTW again for the internet.

The game is for adults only, but the funny thing is it's only for two players unlike any other Monopoly I have ever seen before, ha :) We had a great time yesterday, will fill in more later, have to go now walk Max.

      Have a good one,

Happy New Year to you Vavon! Anything interesting happen to you recently? Did you do anything for New Years? Like I wrote earlier, we did the invite friends for our kids thing. It was pandemonium, but worth it. One kid left pretty late though, some stupid drama between Aga and her friend, yuck! Anyway New Years day was great too, I got to completely geek-out. I turned on the TV and there was a Doctor Who marathon on. It was the last episode of previous season from UK, with the new doctor (eleventh). Wow! So I watched Dr Who all day, for 16 hours. They played the specials and some episodes with the previous doctor (did not like him as much) and then the whole prior season with the new doctor. Man is that a funny actor. I watched some with what I just learned was the fourth doctor when I was a kid. Maybe four years ago I tried to get back into it with the tenth doctor, but just did not like it all that much, but I very much enjoyed this most recent (for USA) season. And I think to watch it in that backwards order was even better. Anyway it was on PBS, there were no ads, no breaks, just one episode after another starting at whatever random time that was each one. Also during that time I made two roller coasters from kinex for my sons. Like I said, a GREAT day!

          5092

    • mr. mzs zsm msz esq says:

      Hi Skaycog,

Like I wrote Vavon party went well, but this is ridiculous, a while back Aga needed to go to work the same day I was taking my sons another dad and his sons to wrestling. She asked if her friend could drive her to work in the morning. She said that's too early (it was leave at 9:30AM) and so Aga asked if she could borrow their car then (they have three). Well the friend said, "If you chose to have a car that yo do not drive in winter, that's your choice. I will do it this once." Whoa that was a surprise, thought she must have had a bad day or something because we drove them a lot of places and even in very early times of day. Once even she rushed them to the hospital. Like their kids to school, daycare, after school stuff. or all over the place when they had two cars and one was broken.

Okay so the next day Aga got a text, "Do you still need the car, there's no salt on the road." Well there's a lot, and Aga replied, "I don't need your car." She asked another friend and that one was really happy to help. Anyway Aga was crying, very upset. I learned that they have not patched it up since then, when the mom came at 9:45PM to get her daughter, just walked-up to the door, rang the bell, and got back in the car. I had no idea, it's weird.

So the next day her husband called. As far as I know, we are on great terms, it's the guy I made the roof for his shed not too long ago. Well he apologized for getting the daughter late, says he lost track of time and did not tell his wife what time to get the daughter. His daughter had a great time, but his wife was crying about how bad the relationship had gotten between our wives. Again at that point I had no idea, I did not know the whole story like Aga had asked to borrow the car, I just thought they did not want to lend it to us. He said that his wife said we used one of their cars a whole lot last year. Well that's not true, but no reason to argue. One time I drove our kids and their daughter in their car because it seemed like the mom was uncomfortable letting me take them to and from swimming in the Volvo, not a safe car by today's standards, and I had no problem with that. Anyway, she does not want us using their car ever, like she is afraid we will get in an accident and ruin it.

Anyway it's all so stupid, i don't know if I am really getting the whole story. Aga is trying to patch things-up again, invited her to lunch tomorrow, but she said she can't go now. I just don't know, it's upsetting for Aga.

Anyway the fish died recently and yesterday Michelle's second hermit crab died too. It's just been really sad about that here. Kevin's tics were pretty bad when going back to school, it was head bobbing, but it's like he has passed the worst of it, his hands were even shaking before like I wrote earlier I think. He already got a new fish, calls him Lew Zealand like from the Muppets. Seems very okay about all that now, Michelle is still pretty sad, maybe after today things will get better.

Yesterday was a crazy day, lots of after school stuff and me getting den outing ready for Thursday, and a miscommunication happened for Aga and the dad of another kid. So more stress when one of the kids did not get carpooled to wrestling! Also Aga was sick! But we need som good fun things to lighten the mood here. She has a new job. It is only through the part of March until her mom comes to visit. After that she starts the photo studio in our house. We painted part of a wall for it this weekend, looks great, like a swirly few shades of brown. Also last night I made a PB and honey sandwich while Jake was taking a bath. He asks, "What's that." I reply, "It's honey." Him: "Dad, what it it?" Me: "Honey." And then he's getting upset. he thought I was calling him 'honey' and not answering him :)

Anyway I have got a lot of work, needed to get that stupid friend/car stuff off my chest, hope to get to the storm chasing again as soon as I can. I'm glad you had a nice New Years and drive in the mountains. It was phenomenally windy here during that time, so glad it was okay there for you.

      Have a good one,

szm, smz, dad……..This week has flown by. I can't believe that tomorrow is Friday already. I went to an out-of-town appointment today and had my beloved Chinese buffet. I ate the same things that I always eat. I know what I like. Too bad about Aga's friend and car situation, and I know how bad Aga must feel. I hope they can kiss and make up, so to speak. Also, it's too bad about the fish and hermit crab dying. It's been a pretty rough time at your household. Having the photo studio in your home sounds like a great idea. I hope it works out for the best.

      Later!

      Hi Skaycog,

Yippie the Chinese place! I'm going out to lunch with Racin on Tuesday maybe fish tacos or this great diner I found. Again time for me to be racist and stupid, but Greek families run the best diners!

Things are going better for Aga and her friend. A few days ago she went over and they were both crying. Women are weird. That reminds me, one night Aga was having a bad day, she was really upset about Kevin's tics, they have not gotten better :( It's his head and arms again, also she started that new job recently, etc. She sort of forgot to get a kid carpooling to Wrestling, you can see she was disheveled. So I was doing my best, telling her things like worrying will not make it better, it will only cause stress, none of that logical stuff worked, then at night she just held me and cried and cried. That helped, again women are weird, but do I love her.

I have had a rough time with Kevin too. On Friday morning I snapped. I'm not proud of it, but Kevin has a spelling test and Aga was asking Max when I found out Kevin had not studied, so I tried to help him, but he was in no mood to practice, and I yelled at him after three words. That did not help with the tics, it was terrible, I felt awful, but I apologized. Anyway life is tricky sometimes and I'm a big screw-up more than I like. Work has been stressful to me as well, but that's what's rough about stress, the feeling of not much you can do about it that makes or even causes the stress for me. Oh well, see me being all logical doesn't even work for me.

      Have a good one,

I can't help but imagine Scion as a middle school dweeb, jumping up and down, stamping his feet and shouting, "I AM hip! I AM hip! Damn it, look at me; I do freakin' REMIXES! I know DJs…personally! I'm popular, I belong, and all you better start liking me!"

Give it up. You're still just Toyota trying to buy street cred and we all know it — commissioning yet another hiphop remix ain't gonna change that.

MotoGP office chairs, which are cool because they look just the bucket car seats that the manufacturers put in their racing…um, bikes. No, wait, that's not right — what was the question again?

These Lamborghini candles are pretty ridiculous. You can't burn them at both ends.

British Leyland condoms, they leak like a sieve.

Also, I like the Lamborghini phone's ode to the rotary.

Porsche sunglasses. Lame. I could also go on about expensive Harley Davidson apparel, but some well-heeled biker might beat on me. However, Caterpillar has some nice work boots, jackets and the like. I've got one of their sweatshirts.

Ford F-150 Harley Davidson edition. "….you paid how much for those chrome emblems?"

I've seen (possibly here) those trucks described as the automotive equivalent of a tribal tattoo.

It makes no sense at all.

The Funkmaster Flex Expedition is pretty goofy, too.

There is one car tie-in that actually kind of worked. The black grille Mustang cologne is actually a decent cologne. Its a rather tobacco-y cologne that is at a decent price point and is wearable…

Corvette can have some of the worst. A Corvette shower curtain? While trying to find those I found Corvette Doggie Tank Tops:

Apparently real dogs were too embarrassed to wear them.

I'm a big Corvette fan, I even had a dog named Zora, but these shirts are a little much.

i will confess to having a Lamborghini watch. However, even though it has the bull logo on it, it is Tonino Lamborghini, not Automobili Lamborghini. It is a pretty decent Swiss made watch, I got it cheap (<$75) at a pawn shop vs. the $500-$1,000 prices seen online. It looks sort of like this but different colors:

It's a perfectly good racecar that's been spoiled by ties to the Camry.

    • Devin says:

I don't get the whole "boo Camry" thing. I know, it's a boring family sedan, and no, I'll never buy one, but why does a basically competent vehicle raise so much ire?

      • skitter says:

Because they are bringing about a zombie apocalypse, one driver at a time.

      • Maymar says:

Because the Camry is generally so singularly devoted to doing approximately nothing enthusiasts like. There are plenty of alternatives that make for great commuters, but have something a little special about them – the Fusion and 6 are pretty nice to drive, the Optima and Sonata are great looking, and have that fantastic direct injection I4, the Altima popularized excessively powered mid-sized sedans, until the current model, the Passat was out there being German, and the Malibu's a little pseudo-German. Even the Accord retains a bit of Honda character, even if it's diluted. But the Camry is designed to take up as little of your mental space as possible, so it's a little frustrating to see it succeed, and bring out a new model the same week Mazda Kevorkians something like the RX-8.

        • Devin says:

Of course, there are better options, but really, it's not like the somewhat boring mass market things were invented by the Camry. I mean, there have always been the Chrysler Sebrings, Buick Centurys, and so on that appealed to the dull set, and if the Camry didn't exist we'd have some other basically competent family sedan from someone else that's not very entertaining or interesting but is quite successful.

And frankly, as a driver, we should be HAPPY that there's a universal choice for boring people who aren't that good at driving. I like that if I see a Buick Century I know to give it a wide berth since the driver is old and probably senile. Camry? Well, I know to get ready to pass because they're driving a smidge under the speed limit, and to be a bit weary of their signaling. It's really convenient!

While dropping the wife off at Walmart this evening I saw their ad for a $26 oil change. It has a photo of Jeff Gordon holding a quart of Quaker State with the caption, "Inspired by Jeff Gordon". Anyone who needs inspiration to change their oil clearly has issues, but then, this was Walmart.

HUMMER driving shoes. Seriously. Saw them in the Sierra Trading Post catalog a number of years ago.

I mean, WTF??? DRIVING SHOES for a big clumsy truck that botoxed soccer moms will drive to the mall?
