Hooniverse Truck Thursday: The Crosley Pickup Update
Way back in December, I did a post about a 1949 Crosley Pickup truck I happened to stumble upon one day while out and about. Well, I was cruising down Beach Street down in Daytona Beach about a month ago and spotted it parked out front of Rick’s RML Automotive and slipped in to capture a few images of it. And today, the slacker in this olelongrooffan is conspicuous by his absence and my fellow Hoons get to see those images.
Just as Rick had mentioned, he left the body in its current state although he did replace the grille.
He also affixed his logo to the doors
but its patina remains true to Rick’s wishes.
In that previous post, I did not capture an image of the interior of this micro mini truck. I have to tell you, it is spartan! Choke, ignition, headlight switch, speedometer and fuel gauge are the only items on this dash, although it appears that at one time there was a stereo of sorts present.
I had to capture another, this time showing the shifter in the reverse position. It is about 4″ from the floor!
And the seats are naturally heated and cooled.
The nose on this thing sure is funny looking, IMHO. However I forgot to ask Rick what that tiny red light on the front is? Any ideas my fellow Hoons?
And much like those vintage VDubs I saw at the VDub show earlier this year, that engine is squeaky clean.
I remembered Alff, the slacker that he is, commented in my original post that he wished I had captured some images of those spare motors. So this olelongrooffan strolled through that Alfa Romeo showroom to the garage area to do just that.
There were a matching pair of engines that were stripped of some of their parts so another could power that old truck.
When Rick started up his truck, I noticed the part I am pointing at in the below image and I asked him what it was? “That John, is the world’s funkiest water pump.”
Yes Rick, it is.

Kind of a strange coincidence. I snapped this picture about a year ago. Your pic is better, but my reflection is WAY better.
In a totally obscure, to my fellow Hoons, way, I was emulating my older brother with his newly polished Airstream trailer image.

Cool image! I like.
I envy your brother his Airstream but not the job of polishing it. I've read up on the process, taking one back from oxidized, and it is brutal.
Alff..he hired that job out for $600!!

The red thing on the nose isn't a light– it's a reflector that's an integral part of some versions of the Crosley emblem. A fine car.
Thanks for remembering me, LRF! I'm not sure what I expected a CoBra engine to look like, but I was envisioning something a tad more exotic looking.
