Hooniverse Asks – What’s the Most Legendary Car in Hollywood?

Yesterday, being Two Wheel Tuesday everywhere were not prohibited by law, I asked a question that potentially could topple at a stop light. That query was about what was Hollywood’s most legendary motorcycle, and boy did you come through. There were the expected Easy Riders and Great Escapisms, but day-um, Battlestar Galactica cafe racers? You ladies and germs rock.

Today, we’re gonna’ keep the drream alive, but switch it over to four wheels and . . . well, whatever you come up with. Sure, Hollywood has foisted a lot of notable cars onto the silver screen – from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, to the Armco shredding racers of Le Mans, and over the years one car must have risen to the surface as the most iconic, the most legendary.

So, which one is it, in your opinion? Which car represents Hollywood’s most legendary ride? Is it the evil and solicitous Plymouth of Christine? Or maybe the Ghostbusters Caddy ambulance? You like cars, and you watch movies because there’s always a chance for boobs, what do you think is the most legendary car of Hollywood?

While popularized on the small screen, there are at least two big screen adventures for The General Lee.

Don't be shy. The pimpmobile movement was strong enough to inspire a few production cars. In fact, I'd love to see a documentary on pimpmobiles.

  7. Tanshanomi says:

While my vote for pure, legendary famousness would clearly have to go to the BTTF DeLorean, I think this rivals the General Lee for runner up:

My vote goes to the DeLorean, if judged on the basis of "How many people can identify the movie in which this car played a leading role?" A tied close second goes to the VW Beetle of Love Bug fame and Ecto-1.

As awesome as the Bullitt Mustang, the Vanishing Point Challenger, and the 007 DB5 are, I doubt that a lot of people would automatically associate them with the movies.

In Hollywood, it's all about the bottom line. One car has probably pulled in more licensing money in the last 5 years than 2 through 10 combined.

The Hannibal 8 is on the market right now, for $350,000. It has a Corvair engine driving all 4 rear wheels.

  16. buzzboy7 says:

I hate to say it but it's Herbie. The other cars are mostly side roles. Herbie was a star. You may not like "Nerd" movies and don't know about the DeLorean. You may have seen ghost busters but don't remember the Ecto 1. The A-Team was something but you may care more about the action than the Van. Even if you've never seen Herbie(or it's spawn) you have probably heard somebody(probably a 40+ yo woman) call a VW Herbie.

Very happy to see night rider one of my favorites. But i think James Bond's Aston Martin DB5 from Gold finger, is considered to be world most favorite and famous.

Sorry for no pics, I'm banging Millers and I really don't give a crap 'cuz there were no boobs in it.

But I vote for General Lee. Being 12 years old, Daisy Duke made me tingly in special places. Yea- I'd better clam up.

  22. McQueen says:

I'm on my phone or I would post pics , you guys and gals missed the biggest hot rod of them all the K car from Planes , trains and , automobiles along with the yellow Elinore from the original Gone in sixty seconds and , what the hell I may as well throw in Cages version of Elinore too .
