Year End Wrap-up: The Best of Truck Thursdays, with Poll!

Welcome to another edition of the Hooniverse Year End Wrap-up, and this time we look at another category that was created because we are enamored with trucks as much as anyone…. they just have to be cool. It has become another signature category here at Hooniverse, so enjoy.

This feature was started on September 16th of this year, with a great vintage 1958 Chevrolet 100 Spartan Car Hauler. it was constructed from a fire engine that covered only 5,700 miles and was equipped with a Chevrolet 348 Cubic Inch V-8. The pictures are purdy too. See the posting here.

The next Truck Thursday posting featured a stunning pair of Dodge Sweptside Pickups, with equally stunning asking prices. These trucks had a short production life, assembled with Dodge Station Wagon rear fenders over a conventional bed, and built quality was haphazzard at best, but so what….. Look at them! See the original post here.

The next Truck Thursday posting actually ran on a Friday, due to the Great Hooniverse Blackout that happened in late September, and it was actually suggested by Tim. It was a great suggestion, and one of the most popular Truck Thursday postings we’ve had. Take a look at the original post here.

The next truck was a great looking 1960 Ford F-500 with just the right amount of Patina. This truck generated a lot of comments, and our fans seem to be drawn on one particular feature of this truck…. a dash switch marked “Blink Marker Lights”. See the original posting here.

One of our favorite sites is English Russia, and this is where our next Truck Thursday posting originated from. It was a feature on the Volat Truck Plant, which is located in Minsk. Read this posting here.

Our very own LongRoofian submitted a piece about an Alfa Romeo A-12 Light Duty Truck, which created a lot of discussion among the Hoons. Why not take a look at the post here?

We went from a Light Duty Alfa Romeo to a Heavy Duty International 10-Wheel Tractor, and what a truck it was. Many of the comments centered around the cabin furnishings, and it is a gorgeous interior, so why not take a look for yourself.

LongRoofian once again submitted a great Truck piece on his 1986 Jeep Comanche Pickup that he picked up for $800. This is a great story, with a lot of interesting information on the Jeep of Pickups. See this posting here.

We here at Hooniverse Central received a tip from njhoon and ran with it for our next Truck Thursday article. It was a 1957 Chevrolet that carried a stigma of a Carnie Attraction. It needs a lot of sheet metal work, but what it really needs is a “Free Candy” banner… See the posting here.

The last article for our Truck Thursday Review was this little puzzle in which I asked our readers to help identify the actual truck make. It was listed on an Ebay auction as an Autocar, and it came equipped with a GMC Twin-Six V-12! See the original posting here.

So which of these features best represented Hooniverse Truck Thursdays?

All my choices for the Year End Wrap-up will have an obscene amount of wheels. Volat FTW!

  2. SSurfer321 says:

Much love for the cab over Alfa

  3. GTXEliminator says:

    Comanche!!!

  4. Funilly enough, the Trucks I was torn between are all currently in the top four. I had to go with the perspective-and-proportion-denying Autocar Twin-Six, though, not least because it could make an amazing drift truck….

  5. citroen67 says:

Being a huge fan of car-haulers, I had to go with the big red Chebby.

  6. lilwillie says:

Car hauler. Do want. Perfect rig to drive to the track with a Vintage car on the back. And the 300 jokes and sayings would be fun to do with the truck!

  7. dr zero says:

The little Alfa looks so incongruous amongst all of the other trucks that I just had to vote for it, although many of the other featured trucks are pretty cool as well.

  8. junkman says:

As a Ford Durango owner, I must protest! As far as I can tell, it's the only truck model that was featured twice on Hooniverse this year (representing a full one percent of the total production), yet it has been snubbed for year-end honors. It's rare but attainable and, with its Fox platform, ultimately hoonworthy. What gives?

  9. Van Sarockin says:

Great selection. But I felt morally obligated to vote for the most FC entry of the lot. Now I can face New Years without moral obligations or regrets. Thanks for doing such great work, Jim!

  10. Lotte says:

I voted Alfa; it's not the most badass, not the heaviest hauler, not the nicest paint/rust situation…

It made me do it! I couldn't help it!

  11. littleYodaPickup says:

I'll take one of each, please, including the cute little number on the back of the hauler. The Autocar Puzzle is just all kinds of awesome.

Truck Thursdays is my absolute favorite part of Hooniverse. Please keep the posts coming, Jim…

  12. Alff says:

Although the Alfa is my favorite, I had to vote for the Ford Utility truck. Months later, I still catch myself daydreaming about it.

  13. Pleco says:

Another great piece and fantastic choice of trucks. Had to repost it on the Classic Industries facebook fan page (http://www.facebook.com/classicind) and it's always great to share stuff from the 'verse with a few other people that will appreciate it.

I've got a hell of a truck for Truck thursday squirreled away in the warehouse at CI… it looks like a 1953 Chevrolet tow truck, and it's missing a hood. I swear that exact truck was the inspiration for Tow Mater in Pixar's "CARS".

Out of these, I'm tempted to vote for the twin-six V12, but I really do like that Spartan car hauler. Especially if it comes with the matching Scout!

  14. RichardKopf says:

I like them all, but I went with the Ford Stake bed. I just like old trucks like that.

  15. I'm torn between the Cab-over Ford and the Ferris Wheel truck. The dream of playing creepy music through a PA system and scaring away all them pesky neighborhood kids leans me towards the carnival-Chevy.

I'd hook the drive motor up to big-block with zoomies, strap a bunch of screaming-dummies in the seats and spin that sucker at 33 rpm for the ultimate Halloween ride.

  16. Although my Comanche is in the mix here, as well as the Alfa I posted about, I had to go with the FC Car hauler. I mean with no other truck featured could you Hoon your way to the track in an extremely Hoonable truck while hauling yet another Hoonable vehicle of your choice on your back. Having said that, I love all things Wagon Wednesday and Truck Thursday so every one of these entries suits this olelongrooffan fancy. I gotta go for now. I need to contact all my "It's a Jeep Thing" buddies. :)
