Hooniverse Weekend Edition: A Glimpse of the new Nissan Quest via Speedhunters

I know, I know, minivans are really the Anti-Christ of the Automotive World…. yet I can’t help myself. You see I own one of these soul sucking machines, and they have their uses. With the new Odyssey from Honda, and the Swagger Wagon from Toyota, Nissan has decided to once again enter the Minivan arena, and this is their weapon of choice.

Dino Dalle Carbonare over at Speedhunters.com did a feature on the JDM version, called the Nissan El Grand, and borrowed a loaded Highway Star version from Nissan to try out. According to the posting:

The Elgrand has been a favorite in the JDM vanning culture, often seen wearing aftermarket bodykits and stanced accordingly. But we now have to ask ourselves, is all this about to change? You see after a great 8-year stint the second generation of the Elgrand, the E51, has now been replaced with the all-new E52. Key differences are more compact dimensions, a more station-wagon-like silhouette and more importantly a new platform, which it shares with the USDM Nissan Quest. This obviously, and very disappointedly for many existing Elgrand owners, means a move to a front wheel drive layout. This choice could potentially ruin the unique appeal it has always had…

This is really a great looking van, and I hope Nissan decides to bring in the “Highway Star” as the top spec model. Read the entire post over at Speedhunters.

I had to scroll up and down repeatedly to determine that this wasn't the same eyesore! I don't know what is worse: Nissan building such an abominable vehicle, or that they copied it shamelessly from someone else. And I was ready to blame the French!

      • Syrax says:

The worst thing is that they don't look a lot like. But it's the image that stays, just like the W210 E Class and the Lexus GS.

      Wow. Twins!

Yakuza everywhere are sanding off their ritual tattoos in protest.

One of my favorite HO-scale model locomotives had a nose just like this Quest…

Pardon me boy…..is that the Nissan Mini-Van….doesn't have the right ring, does it?

In 50 years, will these have the image that Brunellian Cadillacs luxuriate in?

this was obviously designed by Cylons. Kill it! Kill it with lazers!

  7. I was reminded of the Routan/Caravan first look. Maybe it's the square rear.

Mmm. I have to say at least one more person here (*waves) dig these big luxury vans. Where I'm from, these things drink toe-to-toe with Mercedes E-classes. Another way to think of them; the Lincoln Town Cars of Asia. They are often seen schlepping the rich and famous, and a lot of upper-middle class people own them privately because they are relatively big and comfy. Believe it or not, they're status symbols.

Me? I'd be fit to tool around in a Hiace…

  9. Straight6er says:

Wow! As far as minivans go, that is very svelte; look at those seats! Much better looking than the humpback that is the current Quest.

  10. Seth_L says:

Lurv it, but can I fit a Frank Frazetta painting on the side?

    No, thus it is inferior.

  11. FuzzyPlushroom says:

No one on the market got swagger like this.
