Daytona Dream Cruise Saturday, Street Rod Edition

As I mentioned a couple days ago, the Daytona Dream Cruise happened this past weekend. It was founded three years ago by Rick D’Louly who years ago help found the annual Thanksgiving weekend Turkey Run out at the Daytona International Speedway. He then moved on to start up Forgotten Fiberglass, a website dedicated to homemade fiberglass cars of the 40′s, 50′s and 60′s. For the first time this year this olelongrooffan was asked to direct the parking of the show cars at one of the many venues he has scattered around town.

At least for the ones in this post!

While it generally was fun, one or two of the car owners were childish and immature…”Hey Dumbass, the showcase lot for the ’32 Fords is on the lawn. Don’t want to drive your ’32 on the lawn? Then park it in the parking lot next to the showcase lot! And I bet you’ll never get an invite to Pebble Beach or Amelia Island! Prick!”

But I digress. All in all, I had a great time and got to see some awesome machines. As the title of this blogpost states, these are some of the street rods I saw on the second day of the show.

Note, dumbass’s car is not shown here! It will be on my flickr page once I figure that program out which should be soon. Without exception the owners of these street rods were a blast and had a great sense of humor!

I guess I could have posted this one on Truck Thursday.

And I’ll say it now and I’ll say it again. Every Encyclopedia Hoonatica that I can think of was seen by this olelongrooffan this weekend.

This New York based truck was driven by the female member of that older couple! “This is my truck,” she proudly stated.

The drivers of this 39 and 40 Ford seemed to be honored to point out their subtle differences to this inquiring olelongrooffan.

I really thought this was a nice ride and well turned out. Everything just seemed to fit together nicely.

This arrived along with the 39 and 40 you just saw and their occupants, along with several other dudes who arrived in civilian vehicles and they all went into the neighboring restaurant for some libations. I realized the 32 was parked exactly where the screen would set up for the movie to be shown that evening. I went over and relayed this fact to the owner and would he mind moving it? He stood up and tossed me the keys to that sweet ride. Well, Hoons, as much as I would have liked to drive that I declined. That car is just to sweet to have this olelongrooffan tear it up even just moving it a few feet. All of his buddy’s started laughing when I declined and I mentioned this and they laughed even heartier. Yeah, it’s fun to Celebrate Life.

After I was relieved of my parking responsibilities, I headed over to Belair Plaza, an inpromptu gathering spot for a bunch of cars during pretty much any car related event round here. Just wait til the Turkey Run!

While there, I spotted this pretty cool old ratrod. While I am not a huge fan of these, there is a lot of work in this thing to achieve the desired effects.

If I remember correctly, in the comment section over at Hemmings Blog there was a discussion about these and if they were on their way out. I don’t really know but if you ever look at Jesse’s blog over at Just a Car Guy, I’m going to have to say they are gonna be around for quite some time.

And finally, just for the absurdedness of it, I have included this image

I mean it! Seriously WTF?

Stay tuned for more from the Daytona Dream Cruise.

  1. That '32 has neat exhaust tips. That is all.

  2. Mixed feelings on the '58 Chevy. Seems to have the dashboard of an '80s kit car. Undoubtably goes like brown off a spade, though,
