Hooniverse Sunday Edition: Neoclassics on Ebay: Sparks, Zimmer, Tiffany, Spartan and others
Welcome to another Sunday Edition of Hooniverse, with special emphasis on Neoclassics being offered on Ebay. So, you just read the Excalibur posting, and you’re still not sick. Well here is a healthy dose of the other Neoclassics that were available during the Regan and Bush I administrations that should trigger your gag reflexes.
Here is a 1989 Tiffany Classic Coupe, which was the last year these things were built. According to the listing:
1989 Tiffany Classic Coupe, last year built, only 14,657 miles since new. Built by Classic Motor Carriages in Miami. This car is in beautiful condition and loaded with options, all of which work. The car was built on a new 1988 Mercury Cougar LS and has all the popular features of the same. A 25 gal fuel tank, a V8 Ford Multiport fuel injected engine, automatic transmisssion, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, power tinted sun roof, heater, radio, electric windows, power seats , a full digital dash and many other features.
This a very comfortable car with a very classic appeal, which I am only selling because I am reducing my car collection to concentrate in other business activities.
So what is this Mercury Cougar in Drag going for? The Buy-it-now price is $22,500. See the listing here.
Here is a 1985 Zimmer Golden Spirit with 52,000 miles on it. These were built on modified Ford Mustang chassis, with standard Mustang instrumentation, and the Ford 5.0L V-8. According to the listing:
This one owner Zimmer comes from Los Angeles, California and is in nice shape. Car has 52K original miles. Starts; run and drives well. Car starts easily, burns clean and has plenty of power. Brakes, suspension, shifting all in nice, working order. Exhaust is quiet. Vogue tires in excellent condition. Non-smoking, clean interior with no rips or tears. Comfortable, premium Ricaro seats in terrific condition and very comfortable. Air conditioning blows ice cold. Car has been garaged since new. Some typical wear as would be expected for it’s age (see pictures) but in nice overall condition. Steering wheel was scratched up from the lady’s fancy rings, our detail guy painted it gold. (It was originally 24kt gold plated). We have replaced the battery, changed the oil, inspected all systems and detailed the car. Looks sharp and drives nicely.
Currently the bidding stands at over $10,000 but it hasn’t hit the reserve. See the listing here.
This is a 1980 Sparks Rumble Seat Roadster. Only 25 of these were ever made by Ron Sparks of Pacific Motor Works, in San Marcos California. According to the seller:
A few details to be considered about this beautiful piece of art. First, the car is in “EXCELLENT” mechanical condition! Second, the car has a V8 Cadillac 190hp engine. Third, it has a fold out rumble seat with French leather seating, convertible option, and hard top. Fourth, it has 6 wire tires. Both featured on the sides. Fifth, it contains a luggage rack, trumpet horns, and Fog lamps that separates it from other roadsters. Sixth, it has automatic power breaks and steering. This is a definite one of a kind masterpiece that should be considered by those seeking class. Please pay attention to the detailed photos that will definitely give you an idea of what this “Classic” has to offer!
The Buy-it-now price is $25,000! See the listing here.
So you’re sitting here and wondering if there is an affordable neoclassic. Here it is, a 1985 Spartan Series II Phantom. This thing was built from a Nissan 280ZX. According to the listing:
ONE OF A KIND. THIS NOT A KIT CAR AND IS ONE OF 250 MADE. ALSO THIS MODEL WAS USED IN 101 DALMATIONS MOVIE. FULL LEATHER SEAT, T TOP THAT DOES NOT LEAK, POWER EVERTHING. A MUST SEE. WILL NEED SO WORK. HAS GREAT POTENTIAL AND HAS BEEN REPAINTED.
$5,000 is the starting bid, and it does come with the 2.8L Turbo Inline Six. See the listing here.
Here is a car that I can’t find any information about. It is a Noel Calias….. at least that’s what the ad says it is. This thing is built on a Oldsmobile Cutlass Chassis, and it has over 84,000 Miles. According to the listing:
The limited edition of the Noel provides exclusiveness. The fastidious attention to detail provides the imposing look of restrained elegance for the discriminating buyer. The best of two worlds! The Noel’s long wheelbase gaurantees a limousine style ride; the mid-car position of the engine provides sports car handling. The Noel combines vintage looks and style with modern-day reliability, performance and serviceability.Standout! Be GOOD to yourself. Classic #9 out of 11 made! 350 engine, T-Tops, wire wheels. Built on a Cutlass Chassity. RUNS GREAT!….BEAUTY. This vehicle is titled 82 oldsmobile. There is some rust on passenger side on the fifth wheel, as shown on pics. and on the drivers side door next to the key lock some paint has peeled off, also shown in pics. I would suggest a paint job on entire car, it is not really neccessary because it’s just a couple of areas. Jus what i’d do. thanks, lisa
Currently, the bidding is up to $6,900. See the ad here.
Finally, there is this one-of-a-kind, handmade masterpiece. It is titles as a “Special” in Arizona, and it is built on a Chevrolet Chassis with a 350 CID V-8. According to the listing:
This is a one-of-a-kind handbuilt convertible. It is NOT a kit car. On a 1978 Chev Impala chassis. 305 V8 engine with automatic transmission and AC. Fenders, hood etc. are of fiberglass.Less than 24,000 miles on the chassis. Regular AZ titled as a “special”. I purchased the car partially done from a retired auto dealer and it took me 5 years to complete it. The exterior paint is GM dark sapphire blue – a beautiful metallic blue. The fabric blue interior beautifully complements the exterior color. The vehicle is in excellent condition. I am selling only because I am looking at the new Chev Camarros and need the garage space. This is a beautiful vehicle – unique in that there is not another like it.
Buy-it-now price is $16,500. See the entire listing here.

Some poor VW Beetle convertible gave its life for the blue handmade job. However, in some ways it looks the most authentic of the bunch. It doesn't mean I want it though. Butchering up a Beetle soft-top is bad enough, but at least it was spared the indignities that an Opel GT suffered to create the 1979 Kanzler.

That's astoundingly bad!
Here's something else to bruise your retinas:

Seems like a lot of these neo-classics are built on Ford Fox chassis cars. That makes my sick mind think about building one up with Mustang go-fast goodies.
I wonder what front suspension they use? Looking at the ’85 model I can see it definitely doesn’t use the Fox strut set up.
Someone in my town has a Zimmer Golden Spirit; I have seen it a few times. Just last weekend I pulled in near him in the Home Depot parking lot. He had bought a variety of fall plants. Trouble is, that goofy retro-trunk apparently doesn't hold much of anything. So, he had to go home with his huge potted mums, and who knows what all else, piled on the front passenger seat. By the time he was done loading, it looked like he could not see out the right side of the car. Hey dude, this is Georgia, you're supposed to have a pickup truck for that.
What? No Cumberford Martinique?!?
My tastes are simple. I like to have the best.
NO
The Noel Calais, with Sports Car Handling
Whether it's a comedy routine or a depleted uranium sleeper, the appropriate tag is "Pharmaceutical Grade Substances".
The sports car handling comes from the Cutlass "chassity" of course.
I had the misfortune of parking next to a Spartan II at our church car show last month. I was looking at it with morbid fascination trying to figure out the donor chassis. I was thinking those were Ford or GM door handles, the interior switch gear didn't look to be big three either. I finally asked the guy and was amazed to find it was Nissan. Sadly the car actually won a couple of awards at the show. The awards were voted on by the attendees/general public.
I'm opting for the Sparks Rumble Seat Roadster, because "it has automatic power breaks and steering."
Very ahead of its time… Only recently have the high-end luxury brands offered automatic braking and steering…
No, check the spelling: this thing just automatically breaks.
Overall these are the Furries of the automotive kingdom. Kids and people that don't know any better think they are cute. Everybody else is just creeped out by them.
The Noel ad is hilarious. So many overstuffed superlatives draped on a car with a hood gap you could fly a rocket into.
Which would be a wonderful idea, considering the aftermath.
I suspect that "special" would look pretty awesome with about 5" of channeling.
AGGGH MY EYES. I can't stand any of these things.
No Zimmer Quicksilver?
The Zimmer Quicksilver is actually something of a guilty pleasure for me – by all rights I should hate it but I really don't.
I wish someone out there new how to locate the owner of that Spartan-2 or one like it.I'm real interested in buying it.I've been looking to buy one for along time. I knew Ron Sparks .I worked for him back in the 80's as a painter/ body man . I helped on the year change. We had to retool the body to fit the changed shape of the 280zx. If anyone has any information on the car or Ron Sparks let us know. I'll be here .thanks
Richard Lavoie
Is any one out there ? 66 weeks is a long time. I hope someone is still reading these comments.if there is someone out there say something anything. I just want to know if after 66 weeks if anyone is still there??????
Essentially no, unless someone like me happens to see your comment right after it's posted, while it's still listed at the side of the main page as one of the "last comments" for the site overall. As far as I know, nobody systematically reviews the archives, so your comments are not likely to get any attention except from someone searching specifically for these cars, as I assume you did.
Hi it's Richard again ,I was just wondering if anyone is out there ? mdharrel are you there ? is anyone there? Does anyone look at these old editions? I'm here is anyone else?
