Balls of Depleted Uranium: Frank Sprongl’s Mt. Washington Hill Climb

Once again, The Incomparable Mr. Scroggs shares some amazing stuff with us, which should help you get through what’s left of your Friday afternoon. Apparently, according to Scroggs, some young upstart named Travis Pastrami Pastrana has bested the course time for a run up Mt. Washington. Apparently this Pastrami Pastrana is popular amongst the youths, as he is sponsored by an energy drink, and does things that are… oh, what’s the word? Ah yes… “X-Treem”. Or something like that.
Of course, the older crowd has been “x-treem” for far longer, and using far less sophisticated equipment than a rally-prepped Subaru WRX STI. In this case, it was an old restored Group B Audi Quattro rally car. Yes, for those of you (like most of us here at Hooniverse) who are fans of Targa Newfoundland, this is the same Frank Sprongl who showed everyone just how entertaining a Group B rally car could be, with dramatic powerslides and airborne corners a-plenty.
So, for a dose of excitement, and a little bit of rooting for the old champion, let’s watch Frank’s run up the Mt. Washington course from inside the Quattro itself.

SPRONGL!!!
I'd be really interested in seeing how Sprongl and Pastrana would fare in one anothers cars. At the very least, it would give us more Youtube videos to watch at work.
Also, how the Race Taxi would fare on a run up Mt. Washington.
…Being driven by Walter Rohrl.
God, do we have to think of everything?

Pfft. That's too high-quality for AutoBlog. That sort of cool shit belongs here. Now, an interview with the man who managed to get a sub-15 second 0-60 time in a Prius, well, that kind of excitement belongs over at AutoBlog!

Well, Autoblog-Green. Autoblog has it's limits.
Did anyone else spend countless hours on "the mountain" in San Andreas just to do this same thing? I always liked to race the cops up to the top. Good times.
Hahaha. Guilty.
gta ftw
When I wasn't doing that on Mount Chiliad, I was attempting to coax unusual and oversized vehicles up the mountain. I got a semitractor, with trailer, most of the way up on a few occasions, but the switchbacks are hell.
It's amazing how tight the car seems on tarmac while still loose on dirt. It must have something to do with the wheels already spinning on a loose surface. Also, he was seriously in full flow in that last segment. 10 out of 10.
That road is disturbingly similar to one near me… must… resist
Speaking of Targa Newfoundland, I think it kicks off this weekend. Anyone here take part? My folks lived in St. Johns for a number of years and I kick myself for never going to visit at the right time.
awesome video!
……any one else fighting the odd urge to shop for audio equipment?
Check out Frank taking a rather liberal line around an autox course- I believe this was at Targa in the A2
