Hooniverse Weekend Edition: A Classic 1969 Alfa Romeo Berlina; The very definition of Hooniversalustworthy!
While doing all of the Craigslist searches, I cam across this lovely beauty, a 1969 Alfa Romeo 1750 Berlina. I have never seen one of these classic beauties in the flesh, but wow! The Craigslist ad has a group of beautiful images, and I only took a couple for this posting, so why not go over to the listing? There are a couple of additional images after the jump….
Asking Price? $13,500. Is it worth that much?

Nice car but surf racks? Uh-oh. I wouldn't want to drive this car within 50 miles of salty sea air. Even though this Alfa looks to be in beautiful condition, as a sedan, I don't see it as a $13,500 car.
Holy cow! That's one hell of a car! It's looking especially good to my gin soaked eyes. Yes, I am in England-land this week.
Is this Alpha Romeo day or something? I'm just asking.
No, this is ALFA Romeo day. How awesome is that!
Woops, I guess I should wear my glasses when I type.
I dunno, how awesome IS that? I've never been an Alfa guy, so I know nothing.
I had to read that three times before I figured out you were not referring to Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili.
It's an OK car, but it's no Datsun PL 510. It just looks too tall and narrow when compared to the classic Datsun. Plus, i'd rather be seen driving a Datsun than an Alfa.
I like 510's myself, but there is something wrong with you.
Alfas have never done anything for me. They just don't do anything terribly well. Some of them are pretty, yes, but I am a functionalist and surface beauty does not sway my mind as much as functional beauty. It's why I love Japanese cars so, and can't be bothered with anything Italian. Japanese cars are built to a level of perfection that no other country can seem to come close to, so I see no reason to own anything from elsewhere unless it is for a sense of irony. I'd drive a Trabant before I would drive an Alfa.
How many have you driven to reach this informed conclusion?
A beauty to be sure but the asking price is a bit steep. If it were a Giulia Super or TI, on the other hand…
Worth $13.5K? No.
Worth $8425? Yes. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?V…
The buyer got a good deal. I wonder if it was the allure of a quick buck that has him selling so soon. Whatever, he'll have to find a "special" buyer to get anywhere near his asking price.
I had the opportunity to drive one of these in the early 80's and I'd never driven a sedan with the combination of luxury and sports that came as developed as this did. The mechanical Fuel Injection had been swapped for dual side-draft webbers and it seemed like you can keep pressing throttle more and more and it would continue accelerating. When I told the owner I was surprised that it topped out at 130 mph, he laughed since he realized I hadn't used 5th gear. I didn't know 5-speeds were used back then, since this was my first experience in an Italian car. Nifty lighter, where you pressed it down behind the shifter, then dropped in the cigarette! Unfortunately, someone smashed out one of his tail lights and the amber lens was no longer available, so his rear left turn signal was amber and his right lens was red. Very light and nimble and a pleasure to drive.
