After a tough day running the rat race, all you want to do is get in your car, crank up some tunes, and start thinking about that cold beer waiting for you at. . . .ah, crap!

  1. So this is why my E30's door handles are metal.

    • CJinSD says:

Are they? I drove an E30 for 18 years, and I never knew what they were. Whatever they're painted with, that should be used for everything. They didn't scratch and they didn't really age.

  2. It doesn't get very cold where you live, does it?

  3. That recently happened to me with a press car with 3,300 miles on it.

Actually, the handle didn't break, but the whole assembly came off in my hand.

  4. Kogashiwa says:

This happened somewhat regularly to my '85 RX-7. Door handles made of pot metal with a nice stress concentration point on the inside of the lever weren't one of Hiroshima's better products.

  5. mgrinshpon says:

Clearly proof that all door handles should be cloth straps a-la that Porsche Boxster Spyder Masochist-special.

  6. Happened to me in my Rover 800 (nee Sterling) on my way to the Glastonbury Festival in '01. 5 people on board, loaded to the gunwales with tents, beer and food. We pull in for a comfort break, I grab the interior door release and, crack… the chrome plated die-cast handle shears at the pivot.

No worries, I can just use the exterior release after winding the window down. Er, no. Joe Lucas electrics on a Rover/ Honda confection? Functioning power windows? I think not.

When chauffeuring people usually the driver lets the passenger out, not the other way round.

The Boomtown Rats were the first music I really got into as a freshman in high school. I think I listed to Tonic for the Troops on repeat for about nine months solid.

  7. The Vibe has lost two so far, two more to go.
