In the fine tradition of St. Patrick’s Day, we here at Hooniverse acknowledge that most people will use it as the traditional excuse to pretend to be Irish and drink themselves into a stupor. Being one of the millions whose family history is actually Irish, I find the whole tradition quite amusing. I have heard the phrase, spoken to a very pretty girl in a very low-cut shirt, “Well of course Abdulla is an Irish name. I come from the south of Ireland. The extreme south. The extreme south-east. Near Egypt. That part of Ireland.” And it is that spirit of excess that we celebrate today.
The badges alone have more power than a Toyota iQ.
Of course, today, this glorious excess is common-place. We are used to cars with astronomical horsepower, insane torque and far too many cylinders. I have spoken the phrase, “I really would like it if my next car had more than 350 horsepower. I’d prefer over 400, but the choices are far fewer there.” Only a few years ago, that would have been a pretty laughable statement.
Unless, of course, you subscribed to the old European model of excess. This dealership in Edmonton, it would seem, does just that. With a beautiful assortment of powerful European brutes, it’s hard to ignore the bias towards those of the large-engined, excessively powerful kind.
So today, on St. Patrick’s day, while most of you are drinking yourselves into a stupor — and I am home surrounded by sick people — please do so responsibly, and not with the kind of wild excess demonstrated here. Please. Think of the children.
Good lord… someone please rescue those cars from their slow snowy demise!
Occasionally, I see a 850i in the parking lot at work. I assume it belongs to the president of our company, but when I look for his usual ride, a '99 CLK, it is usually there. So I have no idea who drives this burgundy 850i. Maybe its the receptionist.
Anyway, yeah, someone go buy that green one. 'Tis awesome. Like the Blarney Stone.

I've been thinking here for years (after discovering that most interesting cars are cheaper in US compared to Europe) that maybe I should try and import something from NA. Obviously NY/NJ area would be easiest as I have some friends there or maybe FL or CA because of better climate, but I now realize that I don't know anything about prices in Canada…..
Would someone post some links to main Canadian car sale sites (autotrader/getauto/lemonfree- type sites). I'd love to have Corvette but after reading horror stories about quality of C3 and just negative comments about C4 I'd probably look for an cheap-ish E46 M3, Boxter or 911 after I complete my PHH (Project Home Hell), none of these cars have much negative stigma here and I really don't care even if they'd had.
Buying car in Canada would mean kph speedometer, which is needed anyway but probably also some problems created by road salt, no?
Most areas in Canada actually use less road salt than in the 'States. Around here, it's pretty much useless, for instance. When it's -50C, road salt doesn't help, and usually just causes a slippier, dangerousier mess. We also have proper budgets for snow clearing, because we expect it to be coming each year.
Start with autotrader.ca, it's kind of the biggest in Canadialand. I think it redirects to something like canadatrader.com but that'll get you started; the prices on there tend to be pretty average, maybe a touch on the high side.
For the record, it's 87 F (30.5 C) in LA today.

I really want an E31. Test drove a red one while in California back in '07. Six speed, V12, absolutely glorious. Pity it was a really short test drive. Anyways, cars are considered classics here after they complete 20 years of age and are allowed to be imported as such (we can't import used cars). Guess who's gonna be importing a 850 as soon as the money and age permit?
That poor E31, needs to go to a good hoon.

When I first saw the 928, I thought it might be an S4 model, and the rear shot confirms my suspicion. It's one of the later, and more desirable 928 models, especially if it has the rare manual transmission. although I suspect it doesn't. The 8-series is awesome, too; I always thought those were mean-looking cars.
Astronomical repair costs aside, I'd be happy to own the 928 and the two Bimmers. If only I had that kind of money, garage space, and masochistic tendencies, it would be great!
