The bidding on this gorgeous car still has a few hours to go, but as of this writing, it still hasn’t crossed $6,000. What the hell is wrong with people?
Maybe I need to link the seller to my Hooniversity article on the Datsun 510, but as it sits right now, considering all the work that has been done, and that the seller claims it was built to be able to handle significantly more power than it’s currently producing, this car is feeling severely under-priced to me. I’m genuinely wishing I had a few grand to spare. This would be in my garage (with a new set of rims) faster than you can say “Camaro-killer”. Someone wanna buy it for me, til I find a new job?
Thanks a bunch to LTDScott for the tip, even if it is going to have me crying softly in my drink this evening, knowing that it’s not going to end up in my garage.

I saw that up there when you put out the Datsun 510 article a while back.. looks like it's still there.
Ha, I love the camera work. You can feel the thrust of the acceleration and the jolt of each shift.
I'd so buy this thing if I wasn't spending all my money on skoolin'.
I love eBay bidders that post the "Is it safe to drive this car from X to Y?" questions on cars like this.
If I were the seller my response would be "For a normal person it would be safe but you seem dangerously stupid so I wouldn't recommend it."
Agreed. If I ever decide to sell a car on eBay, I am going to set the reserve for the price I want, and then just belittle anyone who asks a question so blatantly stupid. "Can I drive the car in Tulsa, Oklahoma while listening to my favorite AM radio station?"
"Anyone else could. You, on the other hand, I suspect would consider breathing and thinking at the same time to be multi-tasking, so I strongly recommend against you doing anything more strenuous than being dragged around your yard face-down by a Great Dane."
"Being dragged around your yard face-down by a Great Dane." I know how that feels, except it was a german shepherd.
childhood story?
Yes.
If it's any consolation, I too know all about it… except I was dragged around by a Shetland Pony with an attitude problem.
Sorry dude, that couldn't have been fun.
Actually. It was, I used to put on a big puffy jacket that was my moms so I wouldn't get hurt by the dogs teeth and go out there. It was a blast.
I sort of feel wary about this, theres no engine bay shots on the listing and dispite the large well produced list of parts changed the fact that it could go for less than 10G seems weird to me.
Theres alot of fab work involved in a swap like that and… actually ignore that if I had the money I'd do it, that thing would be sick.
Check again. There is one under-hood shot there and it definitely is the real dealio.
Well I look dumb cause the pictures didn't show up at work.
Crap now I wish I had some spare cash lying around.
You and me both, brother.
Nice. When I did this article on the 510, I had a bitch of a time finding any photos of cars that hadn't been modded beyond recognition or rusted to hell. Can't say I like the rims, but I'm glad looks otherwise unmolested externally. A pivotal Japanese car — why this routinely gets ignored in lists of "historically important cars" (in favor of turkeys like the NSU Ro80) is beyond me, other than residual "Remember Pearl Harbor" pissiness.
I just had a look at that article, and will return later when I have more time to read it through. We had a 510 wagon when I was a kid, and at the time I had no idea that the thing would be appreciated later as a classic.
OK, I'm an ignoramus and haven't seen your website before. Any website that features a Cadillac grille like that is fine by me. Looks like there's some good reading there, and some great historical info, which I find fascinating. Just bookmarked it, I'll be spending some time there.
We're big fans of Ate Up With Motor. Easy to loose lots of hours there.
…sort of like a bizarro version of this site where things are written to be taken seriously.
Didn't they do a similar build on Monster Garage?
Wow, this guy did a really nice build on the car. Have we tried to reach him for more details on the build and the insanity that lead to this?
If I were buying it, I'd probably end up swapping the VQ out for damn well near anything else. The booming droning exhaust below about 4000rpm would drive me insane, so I'd either have to reset the idle, or never use anything beyond third gear to not go insane driving it.
sweet! My first chance to use the Banhammer! Sorry about that Maymar, I blocked the IP of the douchebag who replied to your comment…
even though you are wrong
I was really surprised when it sounded good in the video.
final price $6800………. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder how amazing the weight distribution must be. 70/30? 60/40? It can't be lower than that.
If this car is still for sale contact me at danyddriftking@yahoo.com thanks.
I would love to buy it email me please willing to pay cash sk8_4_chase@hotmail.com
