400ci SBC-Powered TR6 Will Probably Kill You, But Totally Worth It

I've come for your life insurance policy

I've come for your life insurance policy

You know it’s bad when the seller includes “death trap” in their listing title on eBay. This TR6 is rocking a 400 smallblock, 2-speed Powerglide and not much else. The top is shot, the windshield is some kind of cruel joke (the original’s in a box) and…well, it’s all about as bad as you’d fear. Also, it’s a true rat-rod in the sense that rats were actually living in it for a while.

Reserve’s not met, but the current high bid is $200. $200 is less than $500. Just sayin’…

  1. LeMons, nothing…I'd drive that sumbitch to work on sunny days. And park right in front of the taintwhistle who finds it necessary to take up 3 spots for his 968.

Especially if a few rats are still in it.

I see he's got a Miata in the garage there…wonder what he's planning to do with that?

  3. Epic. Why are the coolest deathtraps always so far away? I'd love to scare the hell out of my fellow commuters with that thing.

So, by "bad," you mean "awesome," right?

The text says no reserve, then it says reserve not met. I have confusing ads.

Somewhere a boat is missing a windshield.

This needs to receive a Supermarine Spitfire treatment immediately, and descend on LeMons for a strafing run.

  7. Reminds me of the stories my dad's told me of the Ford 289 swap into his friends' MG. They had to slot the four-on-the-floor in, in such a way that the shift pattern was reversed in order for the lever to clear. I would dearly love to have more details on that project but whenever I make mention he goes all practical and says it's not worth it.

  8. I'd love to take this for a spin, and knowing my skills a spin would probably ensue. But seriously how does that thing not just filp over from torque?

  9. I might have to bid on this fine machine. Maybe the reserve is only 400 bucks!

  10. That's not a deathtrap. It's fun incarnate. You can count on it to oversteer in every situation, as long as you're on the gas. Let off the gas and it will push like crazy. Completely predictable.

I'm so glad this is so far away. Gawd, this thing is so tempting and such a bad idea. This bastard is ugly as homemade sin and dangerous as cheap tequila shots in a bar full of bikers. I've done many stupid things in this life, and adding this to my infractions would be a pleasure. I envy the fool who ends up with this widowmaker. I can just imagine how it feels when the Powerglide slams into second.

My uncle has a wife, let's call her my aunt. She is not related to me by blood, and is therefore a little on the crazy side. She does however have a father who I am not related to, who has an affinity for old cars. He has already designated his modest car collection to his children for when he kicks the bucket, and my aunt being the youngest gets the two worst cars instead of one of the really nice ones. One of these is a 1963 Triumph TR3, which I have had the pleasure of driving on one glorious equation. I was only able to go about 35 mph on suburban side streets because it didn't have a working speedometer, and this being my first experience with a synchro-less manual transmission I may have actually grinded the gears on a 2-1 downshift. Even so, it was the most pure and enjoyable driving experience I have had yet in my young life. One day I will own one of these magnificent vehicles.

  13. It makes this 289 SBF equipped TR4 seem downright sensible in comparison, dunnit?

I'd like to know what that land speeder/trailer looking thing at the top right of his driveway is.

Judging from this guy's collection, he's a regular poster here.

  15. It looks perfect as is. I wouldn't change anything. at all.
except….make the interior not a gross place to be, and you know maybe fix the tach/speedo/put an overdrive or a T-5 or a 700R4
